Traditional cel animation is hard. Especially on paper.

Watched the newest Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur episode tonight. For a while, I thought Season 1 had already wrapped but it looks like we have a few more episodes on the way. It was pretty great.
I loved the little Sam Wilson Captain America Cameo at the end.

I just watched “Rango” on Netflix, the last time I saw that movie was at the theater in the Mall of America, during the Pokémon Black & White Mall Tour.

Well, to be fair, I wanted to see that Zoroark movie in its entirety (the Cartoon Network airing cut out some scenes, much to The Pokémon Company’s irritation) but my foster worker convinced me to check out a new movie instead.

Illumination’s model seems to be spending as cheap as possible on animation while spending big on marketing
The production costs for Rise of Gru was $85 million while the marketing costs was over $250 million

They likely applied the same model to the Mario movie, so other studios are likely to copy this strategy seeing the massive box office returns of both films

God help us

Since most executives running movie studios today got their first impression of cartoons via low-budget Saturday morning fare or watered-down repeats of Golden Age cartoons, yeah, it was predictable.
