The limbic system controls a huge swath of things throughout the body, but the damage seems concentrated in areas like sensation, memory, and emotional control. Which makes sense, since loss of smell, brain fog and memory loss, and anxiety seem to be some of the more common long covid symptoms.

The extent varies but I don’t think any system is badly damaged enough to bring it down entirely.

And yes, it has to physically enter the brain to do its damage (cytokine storm notwithstanding). Covid is not the only virus able to cross the blood-brain-barrier and take up shop (hello herpes, you mischievous little mink) and several of them can cause damage. For viruses like covid, entry is normally through the olfactory area, as the holes in the cribiform plate and the noses direct nerve line to the hippocampus make it a weakness. If it breaches there, not even the most determined astrocyte or hungry macrophage can stop it.

What makes covid sort of interesting is the extent and spread of the damage. It hits a lot of places. This is because it has a fun little spike that just so happens to match up with one of the most common receptor sites in the body, which occurs frequently in neuromuscular junctions and, you guessed it, the limbic system.

A wide variety of cells yes, and it is very efficient at avoiding detection once it infects cells in the body. Befuddling our natural immune response.

Phase 3 for the Malaysia vaccination programme is starting now in the Klang Valley (central Peninsular Malaysia). It’s been so long, and after almost every elderly person has been vaccinated, the government is starting to send out appointments.

Virginia has officially met Biden’s goal of 70% getting at least one shot before July first. We crossed the 70% for the over 18 crowd today. 60% or so of the over 18’s are fully vaccinated.

57.8% of the states entire eligible population, which includes kids, has gotten at least one shot. 49.3% of the entire eligible population is fully vaxed.

In order to push those numbers higher, the state has partnered with 150 local pharmacies and clinics to expand their available vaccine hours. They’ve also made it so that smaller family pharmacies can order much smaller numbers of vaccines. Before, they had to be bought in bulk. Now, a tiny little clinic can get a handful of vaccines from the state when they need it, which has greatly increased the number of places that can offer the service.

New reports from around the nation are starting to reveal a new, stupid trend.

Almost every hospitalization and death to covid in the US is among the unvaccinated.

What was once isolated data in a few areas has started to come together into a bigger picture. Vaccine hesitant populations, particularly in the southern states, are at incredible risk. In fact, they may be even more vulnerable than they were at the worst of the pandemic. Between the openings and the emergence of variants like Delta, they will be even more likely to suffer severe complications and death than they were at the height of the crisis.

The vaccinated are weathering the storm mostly unscathed, making up on average 2ish% of the total hospitalizations and even less of the new deaths. Even breakthrough cases are proving to be extremely mild.

Meanwhile, the more transmissable and deadly Delta variant is spreading like wildfire through the unvaccinated. Carrying with it an increased risk of hospitalization. There is also evidence to suggest that the Delta variant is able to resist antibody treatments like convalescent plasma, an important treatment for covid.

At this point, going unvaxed is almost suicidal.

I got Pfizer, as if I really have a choice. The NHS decides which vaccine you take, either Pfizer, Moderna or AZ. And as far as I know they don’t use AZ on young people.

I want Sinopharm, Sinovac or Moderna. Can I choose? No.

And I was expecting some severe reactions based on the leaflet and other people’s reactions. So far I only have a little pain in that particular piece of muscle that got injected.

There’s nothing wrong with dead or weakened ACTUAL viruses used as vaccine. There are many types of inactivated vaccines for various diseases.

These vaccines were not “rushed”, at least not as rushed as people think.

A lot of the slowdown in drug manufacturing comes from three sources. Red tape, marketing, and apathy.

Firstly, red tape. Drug manufacturers have to jump through a lot of hoops to get their drug to market. While a good portion of that is needed for safety, the generally overburdened FDA moves at a snail’s pace. The byzantine nature of the government bureaucracy doesn’t help.

Next is marketing. Huge segments of the dev process is dedicated to market research, exploring everything from entry, to competition, to patents, to advertising.

Lastly is apathy. Companies move slowly because, generally speaking, it’s cheaper. There is not a pressing need (to them) to rush forward.

Covid changed the game. A lot of red tape was eliminated, and the safety inspections were granted priority. That aforementioned byzantine apparatus, while slow to rouse, can throw considerable resources at something once its awake. There was also no need to think about marketing. “We can save the world” is a pretty good marketing strategy. That, and patent waivers really put the nail in that coffin. And to say there was a pressing need to move swiftly is an understatement.

When you add these factors up, a lot of the normal dev time has nothing to do with the drug itself.

While these vaccines still moved faster even than that can explain, it was hardly “rushed”.

As for the problems cropping up, that was inevitable. You’re vaccinating a few billion people. Every manner of side effect and anomalous reactions will crop up. These are normal with all drugs. It’s just that normally these drugs arent in the national news 24/7 and being administered to over a billion people.

where did you get that study? Ive been looking for that, from surface research from some articles (because i cant find the actual studies behind them) it looks like the brain damage from these infections happens because of hypoxia from serious cases, and/or the inflammation effects on the brain from the infection.
