Let's talk about filters

When editing personal filters, the fancy tags setting used is the wrong one. It ignores the “settings” setting and instead uses the “edits” setting.

If you try to edit a filter you shouldn’t, you get an Oops instead of a clean error.

i believe that the “youtube caption” should be added to the default filter, when season 4 starts those will be spamned like hell and may scare away new users.

I doubt it (may even compel them to stay). besides it’s tagged meme so if it bothers them they can use the No Meta filter.

Okay, who added the “exploitable meme” tag to all the filters? I was under the impression that that was what the “No Meta” tag was for.

No Meta intends to remove all meta, drama and not-art from the site. The recent surge of spam under the umbrella of the exploitable meme tag merited its addition to the default filters. Using the All Images filter takes a couple of clicks if you really want to see it, and for 2-3 more you can even set up your own filter.

And why is it now under hidden and not spoiler? Seems a bit harsh if we consider what else get hidden by default.

Because “harsh” is the only version of enforcement that actually works.

Because they have a tendency to swamp the front page, and spoilers don’t help against a spam wave, given that you’ll see like 24 of the same picture.
 
Seriously, is it that hard to make a custom filter that has them visible?

There’s no point replacing the thumbnail for an exploitable with the thumbnail for a spoiler. It’d still clutter up the page (which as a reminder defaults to 15 images per page). Spoilers are made for content that is potentially offensive or, err, spoilery. This was hidden because it’s clutter.
 
We make it pretty clear what’s filtered and how to change filters in case anyone wants this content visible.

Or if you wait a minute I’ll just create a new system filter that’s more “permissive” but still “blocks” NSFW stuff.

Well ok. Just wanted to know a reason for this decisions. Because of the poll and everything else. And I just hide the tag chickun a few days ago, because that was the “meme” that was the reason for this clusterfuck…  
Any other exploitable memes haven’t increased. At least not in the last few days.

even more than one since it is possible to change them so easily.
