Every single one of those aren’t IN Equestria unless we consider them provinces. Even if they were provinces, it seems odd that there’s single settlements, towns, or cities that would thus be considered provinces. I’m thinking more like bunds.

First thought that came to mind is that it’s seen as an indicator that the wearer isn’t confident enough in how good they already look, and is therefore trying to enhance their appearance. If you already look great, what need is there for extras to distract from you?
Alternatively it could be seen as an indicator of being poor with money, where the bearer is spending money on frivolous decorations that could be better spent on more practical items.
 
Considering their christmas gifts, the second theory is a distinct possibility.

Actually, metal is not a heat sink, it’s a heat conductor. Perhaps if the metal had a high surface area then it could act as a heat sink. Also, I think bypnotic is a typo for hypnotic

It’s interesting to see a society where wearing expensive jewellery makes you seem low-class.
 
Why is that, exactly? Is it because metal is a massive temperature sink and cools them down too much? Is it just too damn gaudy?
