Heck, it wouldn’t surprise me if they were friends as fillies, but there was always that simmering resentment and jealousy over the preferential treatment that Celestia and Luna got from the other Alicorns, which Opaline kept hidden from the other two. Then, when they left to go rule over Equestria, she felt betrayed and things started spiraling - perhaps she tried something that she hoped would cause the other Alicorns to adore her as they had them but instead just caused her to be shunned and rejected.
In her loneliness over the millennia, her memories twisted into having Celestia and Luna being responsible for all her troubles, because of the lingering bitterness of the betrayal she felt.

Surely they didn’t do it on purpose, but in the flashback it still seems that way because Opaline seems to want to become their friend and instead of welcoming her they shut her out for no reason.
That’s why the flashback it’s a fake.

Or the person getting mad has something seriously wrong with them, some fatal personality flaw
I mean, for all we know, Opaline let her jealousy over the attention those two got fester to the point that, even if they were being kind to her, it caused her to pull away, and then with the business of running Equestria as well as handling the sun and moon, they just forgot about her. It does happen that someone you forgot about but always thought you were kind to doesn’t see it that way, and feels that you ruined their life.
Hell, I kinda read into it that the fillyhood rivalry was one-sided, with Opaline desperate to outshine them but they were naive and didn’t realize that’s what was happening.

Yeah, I know everyone makes mistakes as a kid, but you have to be really mean to make someone mad at you for life and Celestia and Luna aren’t like that at all. Did people forget that these two were made princesses because they were the only ones able to maintain harmony between the different pony tribes? How could they do it if they couldn’t get along even with their own kind? Not to mention that they are supposed to represent the elements of harmony.

Truth be told, it never bothered me that G5 gave us these apparent filly versions of Celestia and Luna. Especially as long as we get more than just Twilight Sparkle.
