Also, Rarity taking self-defense classes is now my headcanon.
It wasn’t so much that cake was that heavy, but more that he had to strain to keep it balanced.
I was going to say something about Big Mac being strengthened by the power of love when he dragged Berry’s house and knocked away the pile of mares but then I remembered that Big Mac easily pulled that cart of ponies on Nightmare Night with his normal strength so he should have been able to lift a cake.
Consistency is unfortunately not a high priority of the show.
I think the cake has more to do with balancing the damn thing rather then weight.
Which begs the question as to why the Cakes didn’t use a wooden crate, with wheel to move it.
I view it as they were mostly playing around like how they were fighting each other instead of the mane 6. The real troops secured the Elements vault.
In both the show and comic Chrysalis seemed to want them alive, in the comic she specifically says she wants them to make it to her lair after building friendship energy which is why they weren’t the first grabbed in Ponyville.
If they wanted to capture them quick they have hypnosis and goop which seems to work fine on everypony else. If they wanted to kill them they have a face full of sharp stabby things and magic fire.
Changelings must have to go pretty far out of their way not to accidentally murder everything they attack.
If movies have taught me anything its that a bunch of unarmed civilians are always preferable to people with any form of training or experience.
And movies wouldn’t lie to us, right?

MLP isnt exactly a realistic show. Look at Rarity for example. Aristocrat dress maker - still kicks flank despite having no evidence for or reason for having self-defence classes. Twilight Sparkle - spends literally all her time in doors with no athletic activities whatsoever - beats two best athletes and most of ponyville in a race when by all rights she should be chunky. Great and Powerful Trixie - kicks the aforementioned ponies asses, then loses all competence when the story decides its time for her to lose ( i mean seriously, i understand not being able to defeat an Ursa but somehow she ties rope around its finger as an attempt to stop it - its there for no other reason than to embarass her). Big Macintosh - can lift a house and run away with it, punts mares over the horizon, but dat cake man.
Characters are competent when the story needs to be, idiots when it needs them to be. Its sort of sad, but we have to remember always this isnt actually a serious show, not even for a cartoon, as anyone whos seen Avatar Airbender would know.
Thats why it sort of annoys me that i try to write fanfiction for this thing, because it doesnt even keep itself straight so how am i supposed to write something that fits my OCD nature?
Elements of Harmony also give the users a passive buff?
Hell it explains a lot, like how nerdy Twilight and Physical work hating Rarity can carry Tom on their back.
