You want to know the story behind my username? Hah, that’s a good one! I’ll let everyone think it for a minute.
Elric of Melnipony

Huge fan of the character of Elric of Melniboné, and I wanted a pony-related name.

Just over 50 years ago, a young author named Michael Moorcock decided he wanted to write fantasy stories that were nothing like Conan the Barbarian and the various Conan rip-offs that made up the bulk of the genre at the time. Conan was a strong barbarian who distrusted magic and eventually gained himself a kingdom. Elric of Melniboné was physically weak but a powerful wizard. He was also literate and sophisticated and a hereditary ruler, but he threw his kingdom away.

Songs have been written about Elric, at least one album has been named after his sword Stormbringer, and the original creators of D&D borrowed as much from Moorcock as they did from Tolkien. Characters in other works of fiction have been named after Elric. The symbol that Moorcock created for the forces of Chaos is widely used in various Warhammer products and other places. Other fantasy authors have modelled their anti-heroes after Elric. So even though a lot of people seem to have never heard of the character, he’s kind of a big deal…

I got mine from a Lego Magazine when I was little. It had a section that gave you a Star Wars name, and Natry was the result.

I couldn’t think of a good name, and I wanted to start afresh after migrating from Ponibooru. I just kinda patterned one out based off the fact that I’m usually kinda down most of the time and also to just make it kinda ponyish.

“Feel free to do some RP out of it” you says?

That’s the source of it though, it was a gaming character of mine. Was made up when I joined a neighbor for their tabletop games which were something along the lines of Dungeons & Dragons.

I was tired of using my real name in my video game profiles and high scores a long time ago and it was the first thing I came up with.

The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

I used to have this running theme of creating usernames by starting with an innocuous, harmless object and adding an explosive device to the end.
I’ve been called Clowngrenade, Featherbomb, and Soapmortar here and there on the internet.

The Fluffiest
The story about how I got my general username (Wesley Foxx) is slightly more exciting. Or slightly less, I guess. I don’t really know how to gauge how exciting they are when heard secondhand rather than experienced.

I actually got the nickname Wes way, way, WAY the fuck back when Starcraft: Brood War was new-ish enough that people were still using Battle.net regularly. I was one of those USEast Town Square channel roleplaying kids. I started out as an anthro-phoenix (Because I was a dumb powergaming teen, though somehow less so than everyone else around me while being an infinitely respawning firebird) but gradually as I was getting into the furry fandom turned it into a red fox, not knowing they were the second most common animal for such things, ahead of dragons but less so than wolves.

I get involved with some neko kawaii desu ne etc type kitsune roleplayers (Translation: furry weaboos) and there is so much draaaaaaaama. Backstabbing and internet relationships and all that fun stuff.

Me and my ‘mate’ go to USWest to try and escape from the giant web of crazy, and she gives me the nickname Wes to hide behind.

I adopt it as my character’s actual name, remodel him after an extremely vivid dream I have of myself turning into him, and move on to being one of those Elftown roleplaying losers.

When WoW comes out and I join the forums, then those forums become incredibly shitty and we all migrate off into splinter forums, I start extending Wes into Wesley, because Princess Bride is a great movie.

Foxx has just been a nice generic last name with zero creativity behind it I’ve been using forever. It is the furry equivalent of Smith.

Quick and dirty:

I have to make a quick and dirty, tl;dr version for anything I want people to read from me.

Longer story, liking ponies as a man is odd, right? And my other usernames are associated with me IRL in some way. Even now, I’m a fairly closeted brony.

So when I decided to begin posting on Know Your Meme (where I first learned about FiM,) I decided that I had no name that I could use. As such, I needed to make one up.

Creativity in that regard isn’t my strong suit, but I’ve always been fairly decent with my words. But at the same time, I know my previous blog posts on MySpace and other sites (I only lurked the Internet until Poni, and I rarely posted online with people I didn’t know…people on the Internet are weird, yo. Didn’t want to talk to people like that.) Of course, the reputation of the brony fandom when I “joined” in Spring of 2011 revolved around “love and tolerance,” so between that and the civility of the users I saw posting on KYM (and being bored without my friends at grad school,) I decided to jump in. And so, I went with an adjective that was easy to remember, described my posting style, but was unique to the site.

I thought about the word “verbose,” meaning “unnecessarily wordy.” I felt like it would be a good username that rolls off of the tongue and sticks in the mind, and so I began to use it.

I think it works pretty well.

As I posted in various places with the sole purposes of My Little Pony-based interaction (e.g., Ponibooru, tumblr, deviantart, etc.) I took the name with me as it was rarely taken.

Regardless of the nature of the site (except for my “Verbose” Twitter account,) I spare no expense in expressing my thoughts articulately and fully.

You’d only need to read a handful of posts to realize that “the username is fitting.”

Anyone that reads Homestuck should recognize my name, nothing particularly special behind choosing it. I couldn’t think of a name right then, so I decided to pick something that I thought looked neat and I just happened to have a tab with Homestuck open on it as I was doing some catch up reading.

The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

Back when I decided to join Ponibooru I wanted a name that would be remembered. A name that would strike fear into the hearts of evildoers everywhere, that would bring hope and joy to the masses and would drive the womenfolk wild with desire.

I couldn’t think of one.

Slightly more serious now, I found some small irony in the fact that an einzelgänger like myself came to find such joy in a show about friendship. Realizing that I’d be the quiet loner sort regardless I went with something that reflected that.
