I am in a similar situation at work. Except _I'm_ the one who gets lectured by the boss because we apparently live in a world where people no longer get fired for incompetence (unless the idiot employee is REALLY unprofitable for the company.) In other words, it's all about following the employer's rules, no matter how illogical or nonsensical.
