The Entity is one of Forlastia’s biggest mysteries. A glowing sapient obscured of all features that floats aimlessly through the world, unstopping and unyielding and deaf to nearly all interaction.
The only times it stops are to fight, and the prerequisites to gain an ‘audience’ with it are unknown. The only consistent feature of its victims are that they are always adventures that have won a great victory. Many parties have felled the great beast of a lair only to see the entity appear from thin air, as if surveying them, then glowing harder as it semi-solidifies and begins its odd attacks.
Detectable in scope only to experienced Psions and wise Cephalods when not simply beams of pure energy, these moves include incredible magic that may rob combatants of memory, alter inventory, change size, gender, even race or class. The worst recorded was a seemingly desperate attack that sent a fighter several miles away, bloodied and in a completely separate den of wild animals than the ones he’d summoned the Entity by defeating. Thankfully, many of these are temporary.
Most agree that the Entity is beyond killing, but the creature seems to have a sense of self-preservation. If those it chooses to engage prove too much for it, it may attempt to teleport itself away and become untraceable. No known source of anti-magic has been able to hamper this spell or trap it. However, it seems that if damaged sufficiently before the spell can be cast, the Entity will dissolve and dissipate, which counts as a victory in the eyes of most who encounter it. Many a strange, wonderous and oddly familiar treasure has been found in the wake of these disappearances.
Without fail, the Entity can always be found and fought again, though rarely by the same people.
However, as enigmatic as the Entity proves and as savory as beating it seems, it does carry the added danger of spawning a Shy One.
Unlike the Entity whose motives are vague at best, Shy Ones are obviously malevolent, completely immortal and can only be found where the Entity has been fully beaten. Some believe the odd creatures to be scavengers, there to pick off the surely weakened souls of the recently victorious. Others say the Entity itself is a lure for them, serving the same purpose.
Whatever the case, each instance of a Shy One is temporary, melting and evaporating after a set time, but can be devastating in the time it’s allowed, cleaning entire lairs of life and loot if left unchecked. Curiously, each instance comes in one of a few known shapes, and appears to be the same individual depending on the shape it takes.
