Except the problem is, when you get down to it, rape isn’t something to be joked about. But, as horrible as it is, people make jokes about it, some of which happen to be slightly funny. So when you laugh at something knowing fully well you shouldn’t be, and you get that guilty feeling, the question is, are you supporting rape? Are you laughing at the victims?

I honestly don’t have an answer, but I can agree that the “if you’re not with us you’re against us” approach destroys the campaign’s credibility.

I think it has to do with the diversity we have on this site, personality-wise. We’re a twenty sided die of a site: will you land on the asshole side? The helpful side? The artistic side? The anon side? The “I-don’t-really-give-a-fuck” side?

It also comes from the fact that a lot of “f-k no bronies” blogs take our worst comments and post them on their blogs without even considering the fact that a) most of them are anons and are therefore most likely trolls (no offense to you) or b) there are people are fighting against that post’s opinion. If they posted the fighting, the comment wouldn’t be as juicy.

The entire thing is starting to smell like a “like my posts” clusterfuck.

Ponibooru was one of the most known AND hated pony sites. Then it transformed into derpibooru. We have been mentioned many times on EqD. I dont know if we are exactly not well known.

The thing is, why Derpibooru instead of a place like /mlp/? You’d think they’d hate them even more.

Because it was expected of /mlp/ on 4chan to turn into shit.

Ponibooru was filled with racism, homophobic jokes, assholes and there was little to no moderation.

Heck, we even had a child porn spam once.

That’s the problem though. We are not laughing at this happening in the real world. We don’t laugh at it when it happens. We are laughing at a fictional character. This does not support rape. You know what supports rape: those who do it and get away with it; those who slander the person who was raped with the claims of “they had it coming”, “if they hadn’t done X it wouldn’t have happened”; those who are afraid to say anything when it happens because they want to avoid harming others; where we have a double standard when a woman rapes a man it’s overlooked; those who take advantage of others just to get their sexual gratification. These things ARE a problem. There is a difference between what is real and what is not. Someone being assaulted is never funny. But I will laugh at the over-absurdity of the ruler of a fictional kingdom enjoying her fantasies with her kingdom because it’s over the top. If you cannot find a way to separate one from another, you need psychological help.

Like it or not everyone depibooru dragged into this fiasco via “guilt by association” it isn’t fair but it happened. And now were in a damned if we do, damned if we don’t scenario.

So I ask what do we do? if we remain apathetic to these clams they only get worse but if we challenge there clams we get branded as trying to mask and ugly truth.

There is right or wrong answer in this and staying out of it has proven to impossible as even making a off comment on a pic makes a target for either side.

I honestly believe it boils down to context, over-sensitivity, lack of empathy and personal repsonsibility when dealing what is considered dark comedy.

If rape/molestation jokes are not okay, is beating a child just as harsh or unfunny? spouse abuse? homelessness? someone suffering from cancer? or obesity? raging out on someone with a bat because they cut in front of us on the road or line? Objectivify women because of a rap lyric?

Are we also enablers that beat our significant other because it’s funny in jokes so it applies in real life? Are we so out-of-control as individuals that we honestly believe that we do not need to take personal responsibilities and say “I heard it as a (joke, song lyric, video game), so I guess I should try it,” mentality.

When something like that happens with individuals, then I blame the individual who has the “free will” to choose the actions on how to behave in society.

Sometimes as much as some would like to, you can’t control a person’s thoughts or suppress another’s idealogy and acting aggressive against it only meets more resistance. Given where I live, America, are full of people who resist an idealogy that counters their own, regardless of right or wrong, when presented aggressively.

People who joke about rape believe that jokes have no influence on the real world. They are just jokes. Completely harmless, all in good fun, not laughing at victims at all.
Do rape jokes encourage rape and trivialize it? I don’t think so. Try accusing a guy who makes rape jokes of supporting actual rape, and he will most likely deny it with the force of a thousand suns.

Still, why do we panic when people make jokes about a huge, tragic event like, say, 9/11? In your mind, you know there’s something different about that day, something that shouldn’t be joked about, and even if you can separate reality from fantasy, there’s something about making a joke about it that’s just wrong. How do you separate these things? What’s “off limits”?

No one cares about people from Derpibooru trying to defend their site. To one side we’re all a group of terrible people who make socially unacceptable jokes all day, and to the other we’re a hugbox that bans anyone who has an opinion.

You know i just though of something. whoever it was that message to pinkiepony with the death and rape threats is either hiding under a rock some where or is laughing their butt off over the fact that made what was a small conflict turn into a huge shit storm.

Several months ago cracked had an article about 4 Questions People Debating Rape Jokes Should Ask Themselves.

It raises the point that the whole issue is much more complex than “rape jokes as a whole are evil\fine”. And is pretty close to my own opinion on the matter.

As I see it the question is not what the joke is about but what is the message it carries across. Humor can be used both for harm and healing and there is no shortage of joke told to help people in dealing with terrible things. To exclude humor for dealing with a cretin topic is as bad as excluding any form of speech from dealing with this topic, but on the other hand when you tell a joke you are just as responsible as when you are saying your honest opinion.

South Park and Family Guy do make a number of 9/11 jokes. Does that make the audience who laugh at those jokes, mocking the victims? There was a scene of Cartman laughing at the plight of the radition caused when the US bombed Japan during WWII when he was with the Japanese ambassator. “Off Limits” on black comedy only means that are “No Limits”.

However, there is a no and time where such comedy is deemed inappropriate: Workplaces, schools, recovery centers, women’s shelters and the like. Just because someone says something I don’t agree with or don’t think it’s funny, I am not in a position judge them and say that they are an enabler or an apologist. I would find them insensitive in places I might be uncomfortable with, but to lamblast them for it just doesn’t win any ground at all.

That’s it. There’s a time and place for everything, and if you joke about sensitive stuff at the wrong place and/ or in the wrong time, shit will be flung. You have to pick your audience carefully if you’re going to joke about that kind of stuff.

The problem is, how the hell are you going to do that on the internet?
The place and the time are where and when the recipient just happens to stumble upon the joke, and the audience is everyone. Sooner or later someone is going to get offended.

Srsly. They could´ve offended Molestia and JJs blog a couple of years ago. But not 2013. That´s too late. Therefore I suppose, we just have a bunch of teenagers out there, trying to change (and troll) the internet without a reason.
