Pomegranates :P
G2 Ponies didn't even last a year.
The longevity of a Pony generation depends on the consumer demand and profitability of the toys and media. Instinctively Hasbro would try to have a generation last for a decade at most. But that might not always be feasible, and certain generations might end earlier than another depending on the situation. G1 and 3 were split into two halves as G1.5 and G3.5. Kind of surprised Hasbro didn't take that route and make G4.5 this time around. You'd think seeing the success of G4, they'd try to stretch G4 for a little longer?
Does anyone else believe that G4 was originally supposed to end a lot earlier? Having come out of two very unpopular generations prior, G3.5 not even lasted half a decade. Perhaps around the end of season 3 was where they would have started work on G5 if it wasn't for G4's unanticipated popularity.
