For all intents and purposes, if we see Equestria as a matriarchy (and certainly not a fetishized one like it’s portrayed here) then it’s very much something along the lines of an Egalo-Matriarchy, since besides stallions not being in positions of power, with Shiny boy not even having his throne and a title despite being married to a princess, for what we see in the show, stallions do tend to show up in all sorts of functions with no real discrimination over anything. Likewise, taking a clue from our more patriarchal past, no mare in the show makes statements that could be interpreted as misandrous - which itself would be different in this world, since it’s a world based around friendship, the same way statements from the Victorian age (just an example, such statements come from pretty much every period in history) that say that women are overly emotional and hysterial. In Equestra then, which values friendship among everything, misandrous statements would likely refer to stallions as naturally overly gruff or unfriendly (you know, kind of what they say about griffons).

If Equestria were a matriarchy (in the same sense that the western world is, for the sake of argument, a patriarchy), then most ponies would view what’s happening in this picture the same way we’d react to a picture of 3 guys tying up a girl and pulling her unwillingly into a barn. In a matriarchy, the males (who are seen so infrequently in the general population that it makes one think that there may be a gender imbalance) would be seen as delicate, emotional, and unfit for positions of power; hence almost every single position of authority being filled by mares. Thus, this wouldn’t be something seen as acceptable or (in Apple Bloom’s case) something to laugh about.

It would seem simple, but one has to consider that fantasy scenarios look to invert reality, and that MLP itself is a fantasy scenario. As canon is matriarchal it would, at least to me, be easier to simply “give it the push” and turn into ye olde femdom society, rather tan contrive something out of your mind in order to make it possible. It’s slightly redundant too, because your Gors and what not already exist.

In a clinical sense, I was always baffled at how what I call “fetishized dystopias” were always maledom ones, the most (in)famous ones being Fall of Equestria and Whitekitten in general, seeing as the actual canon Equestria is pretty damn matriarchal. It makes me wonder if things like Utopia Planitia resulted more of some sort of antithesis rather than simple fetishism.

Odd to look at this given what I just read. It was a book containing some of the more “colorful” history of N’Awlins, and according to it this is why they set up Storyville, the only legal red-light district in the USA, late in the 19th century. Because the Big Easy hookers would literally drag random male passerby in off the streets and demand they either pay for sex or they’d beat them up and rob them. Such entertaining times our ancestors lived through.
