No they can’t. Their body just squishes down super small, to about the size of a basketball if even that. They use the pressure their body is under to catapult themselves out :D

They’ve got no need to kill when all they’re interested in is your stuff. They’re opportunistic attackers; if they figure you’re too dangerous of prey or you manage to deflect their attack they escape and hide :P

I’m reminded a little of the Like-Likes hidden in pots in Zelda: Spirit Tracks. Those guys were jerks, but a good boomerang application fished them out. They always jiggled the pots they were in, giving themselves away.
 
Also, does she cartoon-ify the jewelry she steals? Because otherwise I would imagine it gets in the way of her squeezing into small spaces…
