I’m sure when the sirens find out that their friends have been secretly working towards Twilight’s plans behind their backs they will all happily accept the reasoning that “she had good intentions for us” and none of them will be mad at all. /s

How dull :-) I’m sure the real scenario will involve Sonata adamantly refusing help from Twilight and swearing she’d rather die instead! And Smoothie will proclaim he’ll die with her! Trixie desperately tries to change her mind, while Sonata threatens an everlasting curse on Aria and Adagio if they accept Twilight’s help! The whole cast (including Rarity, Octavia, and other bit players who have no reason to be in this final scene) cram into Smoothie’s dorm room! Juicebox looses his temper with Twilight, blaming her for the crowd! Everybody talks at once at the top of their voices! Smoothie accidently takes the poison and dies! Sonata grabs a dagger and stabs herself, joining Smoothie in everlasting slumber! Everyone clears out, leaving Trixie to give an elegy. Fin.

_{(I hope none of that is actually in Stellarator’s plans…)}

I knew I’d seen her referenced recently during my latest reread- WWBA part 49, page 6, panel 2. Might not even be the only instance, but it’s the one I remember.

I’m amused and delighted that a reader looked up something for me that I couldn’t find. Maybe I should start a fan wiki. XD

This kind of sends my mind onto a metaphysical tangent. If the sirens were acting in accordance with their fundamental nature, were they really doing evil?

A fair point. Though in the real world, if there is an animal who has it in their nature to eat people, and proceeds to do so or try to, we tend to kill it. For practical rather than moral reasons.

So you could take the tack that it’s less a case of “you did morally wrong things before” and more a case of “being conscious beings who aren’t limited to their innate nature, you can make the choice to adapt to co-exist with us in a way that doesn’t hurt anypony, and if you can’t, then one way or another we need to remove the threat”

When the time comes she will tell them that she is a big believer in second chances for those who have done evil things…but NOT third chances.

This kind of sends my mind onto a metaphysical tangent. If the sirens were acting in accordance with their fundamental nature, were they really doing evil? After all, if an alligator (*) eats someone, we don’t say it’s evil, because alligators are fundamentally predators and it’s their nature to eat people (and especially dogs).

But that then raises the question that, if Twilight fixes their gems, she restores their fundamental nature, which is perceived to be evil. How does she address that? Not exactly fix their gems, but modify them so their nature is more compatible with pony society? Is that ethical? Or restore the gems exactly as they were, and trust the sirens can willingly change their nature? It’s quite a puzzle.

(* alligators are the most dangerous animal, based on likelyhood of getting killed by one, in the US)

Oh, certainly not! Twilight is trying to make right on what she sees as a wrong, but also knows she did what she had to do. And would again. She just understands that power is also responsibility.
