This thread shall be used as a place to DISCUSS the reasons behind internet drama, as in WHY people tend to make drama and with WHAT objective. We shall not complain about specific people, but use them as examples of bad behavior, in the worst case.
With that said, lets begin.
What makes you think is the reason for people to start internet drama, specially here in the brony fandom? It seems that, when certain individuals stir up this fandom’s hive with their misconduct, they automatically become the fandom’s black sheep, willingly or not, and they shall continue to have this label even after a long time has passed.
Now, if our reactions were truly measured and we were a much more civilized fandom we would probably ignore them, and eventually forget about them. But in reality we tend to gravity towards drama, like if we had some kind of need for it and we have to need to be part of it, even in the slightest.
To elaborate:
We all know of a certain individual who stirs up drama by deflecting logical arguments with “i am being attacked because of my condition” and more or less behaving like a huge man-child. This person has been bashed by all sides, but still continues to make drama, even if their image keeps getting shitted on.
We, as the fandom, continue giving this person attention, even while we demand this person to stop bothering.
Some of us say “I dont care”, while we actually do, since we wanted to state our position in this drama, to remain as spectators without participating.
Some of us actually DEFEND the drama queen/king and others attack them. Such actions only feed it until everyone gets tired of it.
Then comes the typical generalizations/actions, which in the end only make us facepalm at other people’s stupidity:
“This fandom is awful”
“This person (the drama starter) should die”
“We are all being stupid for attacking that person (the drama starter)”
“I dont care” -We post it in the discussion’s pages.
“Its the fandom’s fault for failing to that person (drama starter)”
“Love and tolerance”
We end hating each other, or the others. Then the hive gets calm until the next drama comes and we are all friends.
Rinse and repeat
So, what do YOU think is the reason we fight/embrace/encourage/deny/ignore the drama? If we are all so tired of it, why do we keep fueling it?
