I worked retail for nearly five years, it wasn’t too bad, originally I was just supposed to work in the stockroom but was drafted into a customer facing role.
I met some great people and learned social skills, prior to retail work I was quite a shy person, I’m certainly not anymore. Some of the managers were knobs but we always worked things out in the end. On the whole it was a pleasant job, albeit poorly paid. Now minimum wage is so close to truck driver pay I’m tempted to go back.

Nice that you have an understanding boss, I’ve seen people disciplined because they were 5 minutes late, they relied on public transport (which is piss poor in England).
