Not really, i didn’t expect the reaction on the first page to be so strong and posted out of genuine shock.

I mean, this movie isn’t going to affect the main show, we all know it.
So why even acknowledge that it exists? I understand mocking low quality spinoffs, it’s fun, but why do people get upset over it?

Because we have genuine emotional investment in MLP and as Grieffon said it means they are investing there resources in that instead of the show, because the first one invoked tropes and attitudes that I find personally repellent and because ignoring subpar products is an excellent way to ensure that they keep getting made in a subpar fashion.

I know its fun to be smug and claim that no one gives a shit what nerds think and thus feel like you are both smarter and morally superior than all the “entitled whiners” but criticism is important. If nobody tells the emperor that he has no clothes then he will just continue wandering around naked.

I can’t over state the emotional investment either. We WANT the show runners to do something good with the property, but it keeps getting demonstrated to them that quality is optional because many give subpar episodes, toys and the first Equestria Girls a pass because “its for kids.”

The thing is that there’s a fundamental difference between FiM and EqG.

FiM was made for a wide audience, and it hits almost every single audience that isn’t trying to be marketed to by Transformers. EqG on the other hand, is essentially made for a niche audience, the one audience that FiM couldn’t reach.

If there’s one benefit to all of this, it’s that EqG’s audience is like the least likely out of any to sit down and watch a cartoon series, make of that what you will.

@Grieffon
The way a company such as Hasbro distributes money isn’t a Zero sum game. The money spent on EQG isn’t money taken directly from FiM. It’s money that was meant for the whole EQG project anyway. Hasbro is well known for the use of media such as shows, movies and comics to complement their toy-lines. And so, as the EQG toy-line is still going relishing a new EQG movie makes perfect sense.
Teck_pack

So a new EqG?
Since i actually ENJOYED the first one i am not so skeptical about a second.

But lest be honst. With a Title like Rainbow Rocks it will be basically High School Musical with Twilight and friends. At least we will get to know what happen, and who knows, they might event cover some of the plot holes left in the first one.

@Itsthinking
I do not think MLP was made for wide audience. The fact that it hit almot everyone was mostly cause the producing team decided to make something more than a 20 minute mind numbing commmercial.
Or so i think. After all it is not like we know what exactly Hasbro has in mind.

By the way hat kind of demogaphic you are talking about?

I meant MLP is targeted at very young girls. And as far as i know EqG targets either at older Girls, trying to compete with Mosnter High, or the peripherial demographic (us) depending who you ask.

@ender1200

I leave Hasbro last published quartely results. So you we can all come with our own conclusions.

I swear, it’s like nobody in the Brony fandom has ever heard of the term “spinoff.”

Don’t complain about it if it’s really such a horrible idea to you: just don’t watch it. It’s not part of the main show, so there’s literally no reason to care.

What I’m wondering is if all people here even know why they’ve been going with or are going with the drama mindset. I haven’t watched the movie yet if it’s real, I can’t tell what it is if I don’t know.

During the entire time we were overreacting to EG, and probably the whole time to this if I hadn’t provoked all of you, no one, literally no one realized something very important.

Hasbro probably bought this into existence because they were under the impression that since we had become a demographic, little girls could no longer enjoy it and they thus had to do something to bring them back.

Is this true? Did this work? No and no. The fact that we prevent little girls from enjoying MLP is a stereotype made be the people who despise the very existence of bronies. Did this get the attention of any little girl? Aside from the DVD, no. Considering how little resemblance it has to the movie, there would be no reason a little girl would want it. Not to mention the girl herself would be turned off by the high school setting. And the girls that are in high school hate it because…they like a selected few things.

Whoever think kids would get scared of watching a show just because grown ups “stole” it, obviously know NOTHING about how a child’s mind works. Children see grown ups as role models. If they see adults enjoying something, they would likely want a piece of the action. Also, them seeing adults sharing the same interests with them is likely going to make them feel more secure about their interests.

You’d be surprised. Romanticized high school settings are popular with those not in high school.

It was done to capture a single lucrative market based largely on a fad. The fad of “weird” monster girls.
