First draft of movie had a villain named Cosmos.

Celestial Sisters’ origins?

I really hope the alicorn-related content of the 1st script wasn’t gutted out in favor of an extended rehash of the villain 2-parters. I would love to know who the alicorns and Cosmos are. Cosmos is probably Celestia and Luna’s father and the series’ true antagonist.

Headcanon: Cosmos is an analogue to Cronus of Greek mythology.

I remeber in g1 there was alicorn so maybe there a reference to it…sadly only show up once. Love to see more celestia family or history of the alicorns.

Looks like the “Cosmos” tag will need to be separated or distinguished somehow from “The Cosmos” (related to stars and galaxies).

I really wish these leaks had more articles and people talking about them.

I really hope that cosmos will be a dark’ sly and murderous villain,(just like scar from the lion king, Rasputin from Anastasia and hexxus from ferngully.)  
I really hope the villain will also come with a dark villen song that’s even darker and better then “this day aria”.  
I really hope this movie is going to be dark but not two dark. Because there are some dark family movies (like disnys beauty and the beast, the lion king, the black caldron, the secret of nimh, the princess and the frog, Anastasia , Bambi and maleficent)  
I also hope this movie is going to be beautiful along with dark but beautiful animation.  
I really hope the songs are going be great and be different then the songs in the show.

I really hope this movie tells how the ponies friendship to twilight gives her strength.  
I get the feeling that this is going to be a very good movie and I’m going to love it.

I know I already made this joke elsewhere before, but given the villain’s name, I can’t help but think of this~

As long as they don’t pull a “Magical Mystery Cure” on the script by designing it to end the series only to go back at the last moment (and then re-write the episode for no reason after the one in charge left), I have trouble seeing how they can screw this one up.
 
Though… Cosmos…. ehhhh…I’m sure they can find a name that’s more original.

I’m pretty sure that most of the stuff seen in the Sony emails is not going to actually happen, because Hasbro was so pissed off at how stupid the executives were that Sony lost out on the distribution deal (though Ballarini is still the screenwriter).
 
And besides, the movie’s not coming out for another two years. With how these things usually go, it would be insane to assume that the movie won’t be more or less completely different from these early drafts.

I heard rumors that Sony wanted to go the Smurfs/Enchanted route~ with the Mane Six ending up stuck in live action New York City.

Not entirely sure, but there was one Sony exec who knew absolutely nothing about the show and thought that it was just a “fad for dads trying to connect with their daughters.” Among other stupid things.

Considering the mere existence of TWO live-action Smurfs movies, their meddling with the Spiderman films ruining both attempts [Raimi AND Webb’s] with the EXACT same mistake [too many villains], and the fact they secured the rights to make an EMOJI animated movie…I can say with confidence that Sony has the worst executives in Hollywood right now.

It was one of many dumb suggestions made by one particularly dim executive, who I heard was fired shortly after the original leaks (for reasons unrelated to smurf ponies I’m sure).
 
All this leaked info about the production is a moot point now since:  
A) Sony was never going to have any major say in the story, certainly not enough for changes that horrific at least.  
B) Hasbro partnered with Lionsgate instead.  
C) McCarthy is writing the script after all.
 
Time will only tell what plot elements were preserved from the first drafts.

I think Ballarini IS still involved, it’s just that he’s the co-writer instead. And it’s also worth noting that Ballarini has stated that he’s a HUGE fan of the show and watched every episode to make sure he got everything right in his script.

Do you have any sources on his continued involvement? I tried asking him on Twitter after the Lionsgate press release (which credited McCarthy as the sole writer) but got no reply.

Honestly, I’m pretty sure I saw SOMEWHERE that he was still involved…

Celestia is doomed anyway. McCarthy is in it.  
Celestia will be worfed and killed by Galaxus to show he’s badass. The chosen one, Twilight Sparkle will rule Equestria with Luna and bronies will celebrate except of those who liked Celestia. That’s why i really want a Celestia epiosode in season 6, before it’s too late.

He probably just made up some evil-sounding name, since this “Cosmos” probably won’t be the villain because, as we’ve established, Sony is not involved in the project at all and none of these leaks will actually reflect the content of the film when it comes out in two years.
