I actually liked it that Hasbro gave their EQG characters the same skin tone as their pony counterparts, I thought it was a unique design choice. With this said, I have nothing against those headcanoning characters as different races, ethnicities, sexualities and such obviously, what matters is if the art quality is good. I have seen a lot of humanized art of the Mane 6 in different skin tones including black, and the quality of the art is really good, they are made by talented artists.

If the one below is the one you’re referring to, then I’m thinking her being black is not what upset people. Not that it’s any excuse at all to bully anyone over, but blaming it on that one singular thing is like saying people didn’t like a cake just because of the sprinkles and not mentioning the half kilo of rock salt used to bake it.

Being conscious of subjects like supply chains and economies of scale really makes it difficult to take seriously the tech that there is in G5. If humanity got reduced to three small cities that don’t communicate nor trade, we’d be back in the pre-industrial age. Even if all STEM knowledge was kept intact, the problem would be in technology becoming unaffordable.
G4 is far more believable in that regard.

The other thing is that the numbers from Pipp’s “Socialblade” don’t really gel with the population numbers.
Having said that, the tech does serve a clear thematic purpose, and G4 being more believable is more because of plausible deniability, rather than anything the writers consciously thought of.

That’s not my intent at all. In fact, what I said has nothing to do with fans coming up with their own ideas.
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with fans coming up with their own ideas, but I also don’t think one should give a blank slate credit for not having a flaw. That would be like congratulating Newborn Cuties for not mishandling the topic of drug abuse.
Like, supply chains are not an integral part of G4’s lore, and there’s maybe one episode that’s tangentially about economics of scale.

I mean, in Trade Ya! it unintentionally showcases why money is necessary: trying to trade with the old system of exact exchange is rather awkward on the long run.
Plus you don’t need a looooong explanation for that: the towns were connected and people used golden bits to buy, is not that kind of a show yet in its minimalism it is frankly enough to understand Equestria well… has a market, who gives. Not to mention how many time the heroes don’t get stuff for granted and ponies expect something back like coins for a service or product.
