Vinyl doesn't talk.

I love the fact that Vinyl Scratch makes an appearance. I dont mind that she doesn’t talk but it would’ve made a great addition to this latest episode. I’d like to hear opinions regarding this. :)

I wouldn’t be surprised if she was mute until the series ended.

She inherited it from Derpy Hooves.
 
When she finally talks, there will be a new silent character.

And she has still yet to be named in legit official media as Vinyl Scratch IIRC. The only time it was used in an “official” capacity was on a licensed venue display.  
All of her toys, cards, collectibles. Everything. DJ Pon3
 
Personally, I hope she never does get named anything remotely similar to Vinyl Scratch officially. It’s bad enough a lot of popular fanon is going to become canon in Fanfiction the Episode…. I don’t even like her BG appearances or DJs in general. The fact that she’s been latched onto and strung to the fandom by Hasbro as the poster pony (along side other “fan favorites” like Derpy and ‘Dr. Hooves’)… blech.
 
Yeah yeah, I know the unpopular opinion thread is over there. People bitch about Luna being overrated… Pah! DJ Pon3 is the crowned queen of overrated.

I fail to see the probelm

I think DHX Media knows how popular Vinyl is, but also knows it’d be impossible to get Nowacking to lend her voice for contract reasons, so it’s keeping her mute to avoid any drama. Remember how the fandom got when Octavia spoke in Equestria Girls and her voice was nothing like it was in fanon?

I think they just find a mute DJ funny. Maybe even a challenge to have a quadruped pantomime things. Nothing to do with fandom. Nothing to do with drama.

If we’re going by fanon, maybe she only talks when she’s drunk some cheap booze or just keeps quiet around everypony except for Octavia and a few close friends?

Popular fan animations have her as a bombastic boisterous clueless loudmouth party pony.
 
I’m just saying it’s not a matter of the show avoiding something the fandom does to avoid drama. I’m just saying they have their own ideas about characters and “DJ Pon3- either version (human or pony)- doesn’t talk” is one of them.

What if they got someone else besides Nowacking to do Vinyls voice? I dont mind either outcome, but there are plenty other voices who sound exactly like Nowacking. Im curious to what others think about this.

Alright, she got named in licensed cards that have been confirmed to have been written by fans (or collaborated with fans). But the show and movies have yet to call her anything and most if not all Hasbro merch and 99% of licensed merch has her only as DJ Pon3.

Octavia has two completely different voices? I think they are the same, just the human one is more of an angry shout than the pony one due to circumstances. Both are voiced by Kazumi Evans.

I think M.A. Larson said that he originally had her say a few lines in episode 100, but he got notes from Hasbro saying that DJ Pon-3 doesn’t talk. So, that’s that. I don’t think she’ll ever talk.

Hasbro said that? Well, I think that settles it. Vinyl is a mute character. Oh well, I guess you cant have it all. Nevertheless, she still has potential. Thanks for the info. :)

Well, that settles it. If making Vinyl mute is canon, we might as well tell Nowacking to stop voicing her in fan videos and rewrite every single fanfic and comic that features Vinyl talking.

Vinyl was actually supposed to talk, but her scene got cut out.

With Octi, it seemed as though they tried to find a voice actress who could impersonate her fanon voice; I assume they would’ve done the same with Vinyl.
