Masturbation isn’t sex and one can masturbate by fingering oneself.

That’s one of those exceptions and not the rule. Handjobs aren’t labeled on masturbation images, so it’s easier for that one to not be incorrectly implicated. But as with every implication, it should just be checked and removed accordingly.

But where’s the line for being an exception? It stands currently that around 40% of fingering are masturbation.

I’ll admit, that’s more than I thought it’d be.
Maybe fingerbanging should be unaliased and used for another party doing the fingering, with sex and fingering implied for that. While sex is un-implied from fingering.

Bumping to alert that anal fingering and vaginal fingering imply sex (and imply anal and vaginal respectively, which each imply sex but since implications don’t cascade that might be ok) but are being tagged on non-sex masturbation posts, so they shouldn’t imply sex.
