I would think that Trixie has a LOT of potential, but does not have the discipline and patience to develop it. Sure, her innate magical abilities are not as great as Twilight’s, but it seems they are much greater than that of almost all other unicorns, and is roughly on par with Starlight’s and Sunset’s.

But what Trix REALLY needs, aside from some friends (similar to, but different than, those of Twilight’s), is a teacher/mentor who understands what resentment of someone higher than her, along with alienation and loneliness feels - and how to deal with it. Princess Luna comes to mind. Twilight can help too.

She’ll always be a snarky jerk to some extent. But if she does have a good side and means well - kind of like Rainbow Dash - she’ll be a much better and stronger character in my opinion…

Fair enough, but by spending her time helping others she would be far more likely to get the kind of fame she wants then if she spent it focused on herself and her own needs. Hell, maybe the satisfaction she’d get from helping others would boost her sense of self worth to the point that she no longer cared about being “great”, she could just be happy with who she is.

@Mr grump I will have to disagree. While it may be that true HAPPINESS comes from selfless acts of helping others, fulfilling one’s obligations to the community, completing one’s duties and learning to like one’s self as it is, greatness is measured by the quantity and quality of one’s accomplishments. A happy underachiever is still an underachiever. People who are happy don’t make it to history books unless they’re great; on the contrary, great person didn’t need to be happy to be remembered.

Amazing how easy it would be to make Trixie one of Twilight’s students and equally so the lengths the writers have gone to resist that.

And thus is found her appeal. Someone with a genuine love of magic who is held back by her inability to accept her limitations. Someone who wants to be more then they are but has set unrealistic expectations for herself. Raw determination and fear of obscurity will carry her far and help her improve but in the end will come to relize that being powerful doesn’t truly make her great as a wizard or a person. True greatness comes from helping others and learning to like yourself as you are.

Trixie would probably starve herself if she thought it would give her an advantage.

I love this.

Is it possible to ship them all with Trixie at the same time? I think I’ll be doing that now.

One day trixie shall have her moment to shine and still remain the fatheaded boaster we all know and love. Unless they give her shitty backstory and turn her into yet another woobie with a freudian excuse. Please let trixie stay trixie…
