My guess is that they felt his old voice didn’t suit his new stature, but they haven’t decided on exactly what voice will replace it yet.

I hope he just figured respectful nods were better than any words and the transformation didn’t make him some kind of mute or something.

Honestly, I don’t think that it’s that bad. I just expected more from the people that give the usual visuals in this cartoon. Of course… For every Luna there is a Flurry Heart. But that is just my opinion. I’d probably like this episode a lot more if I didn’t think that the whole setup from the first part is so bad because I can easily take this whole redemption thing and even their new form.
 
But there is more to Thorax than just the way he looks. I can’t find the specific comment, but someone pointed out that he is the typical special snowflake from the evil race, makes friends with important characters, is terribly important to the story and even becomes a ruler.
 
I’m going to get started on my new HiE fic about the suicidal guy that goes to Equestria, becomes an alicorn and marries Celestia. I’ll make sure to make it as clear as possible that it’s a self-insert too. After Starlight Glimmer and Thorax, everything is permitted. XD
