Even though you say you’re not satisfied with this, it’s one of the more relaxed and flowing works you’ve done. Things seem more naturally placed, and less posed. I know the aesthetic of your work often is poses, and this feels much more like a ‘slice of life’ - just capturing some folks walking and talking together. Maybe that is why this feels like it has more energy to me.
It’s the same kind of thing that happens when you create a gesture sketch and then try to finish it, and the finished work seems to have lost all of it’s energy and movement - sometimes these ‘more imperfect’ drawings are really powerful expressions of the characters, just because it’s not posed.
It ‘captures’ them in a way we normally don’t see.
I think it’s good. I think you should periodically do a less posed image like this, something that pushes you beyond what you feel you can do, and really captures glimpses of your vision that otherwise wouldn’t be seen.
It’ll come :) Just keep loving what you do, it’ll grow in time.
That was sort of what i was trying to do - the reason why i’m not satisfied is because i didn’t feel like i did a good enough job at that.
