I believe her dismissal of friendship was more subconscious and perhaps emotional than anything. Her perspective wasn’t chosen so much as it was… forced. I won’t go further, again ’cause spoilers, but I think it was a matter of psychology and her breakdown makes sense in context.

She built herself up, and was knocked down by the combined effort of others. She was shown she was wrong in the only fashion her certainly bitter, power-obsessed mind would accept, and it broke her.

It kind of depends on what you mean. What I noticed about Sunset Shimmer is that she had a certain perspective on life, or a worldview if you will, that described personal success as the most important thing in life. Celestia’s chastisement fell on deaf ears because to Sunset, all that abstract talk about modesty had no corresponding value in the “real world”.

That’s why her paradigm shift seemed abrupt, but was perhaps not so strange after all. The Elements of Harmony are powered by pure charity and goodwill, and as we saw with Luna, they sometimes have a sort of purging effect on the darkness in a person, if only for a moment. But that moment was enough for Sunset to experience the power of charity inwardly in a way she was apparently unfamiliar with. Hence, the big ‘ol tears and her statement that she didn’t know there was “another way”. Friendship was nothing more than a philosophical concept she had intellectually dismissed long ago, having never really tasted its sweetness for herself.

I don’t know about you, but I personally love the idea of Chryssy being hilariously incompetent post-season two. A bit like an evil overlord slowly being reduced to a wayward villain, then over time to a mere chuckle-fuck misfit. Rita Repulsa, basically.

I won’t spoil it for anyone who hasn’t read it, but let’s just say her snobby attitude was justified, and I disagree with that Anakin Skywalker analogy. Sunset never intended well…

Actually… Yeah, that’s actually true. Sure, her background in the comic makes Sunset’s redemption in the movie kinda forced, BUT considering the movie was made first, it’s understandable. Also, it’s amazing how Chrysalis is one of Price’s favorite characters, yet her plan in her own arc made no sense and was changed in every issue.

For me, Equestria Girls depicted Sunset as Twilight’s Gary Oak or N Harmonia, while the comic males her Celestia’s Anakin Skywalker.

I disagree with your assessment, but I concur with the sentiment that Sunset should have had her own short in there, or at least an appearance.

Okay, look. I know Sunset was a very one-dimensional character in EG (Human!Flash was the only character with less personality than her).

But how has she had ZERO screentime in any of the shorts so far?
