@Jerkface
I think of the 1973 film too. It’s good, but this other version from 1939 is better in a way. At least it’s not as bad as this PS2 game Robin Hood’s Quest where Robin can’t even use his bow!!
@rogerSnow
Something I heard two, three years ago: /mlp/ either held a fundraiser which helped Africa in some way or they contributed to a fundraiser that helped Africa in some way hosted by somepony else. :3
@Jerkface
Yeah I guess it’s not really fair to just use them as shorthand for shitty people. Some of the more intelligent discussions about the show I’ve seen there.
@rogerSnow
Fair point, but what bothers me is that a good amount of people here seem to use /mlp/ as some kind of scapegoat whenever there’s someone who disagrees with the norm. Either they’re contrarians from /mlp/ or they’re hipsters from /mlp/. Nobody can think differently and not be from there, apparently.
@Jerkface
It’s barely used at all now anyways, and I don’t think you can definitively state how an entire large amorphous group of people using a meme all personally interpreted it. Yes, I’m aware of the “I’m gonna love and tolerate the shit out of you” origins of it, but the entire fandom and everything in it has existed on a spectrum between people liking, saying, and doing things ironically and sincerely since the beginning, even on /mlp/. And it’s always been sort of a goofy mix of the two where you say it jokingly but value it somewhat as well. Then of course there are the two extremes, the ones who think everything was all just a big joke because they got into it ironically, assuming everyone else was only doing it for that reason as well, and the ones who are super serious with it and think it was all some philosophy to base your life around wholeheartedly.
I just get annoyed when the “ironic” segment thinks everyone interpreted everything the same way that they did in the beginning and accuse others of just not “getting the joke”. We get it. Just not everyone happens to share the same opinion. It wasn’t all just a big dumb joke that you duped everyone into taking seriously.
@Jerkface
This is from an episode called “Through the Door” where the ponies meet fairy tale characters, so I’m guessing they’re meeting a character from Aladdin. Either way, it’s cute seeing them dance.
So why is this lady here?
Why is she making ponies dance with her?
@rogerSnow
Love and tolerate started as a joke response that suggested violence was about to occur, usually in response to trolling. It was never meant to be used seriously, or at least in the manner that it is now.
But sure, continue to pin it on “/mlp/ narcissism”.
@Background Pony #36DE
Yeah. People have done that for years and from the beginning. Sorry, but /mlp/ narcissism isn’t the end all be all of the fandom.
@thps48
I agree, they need to see it…I’ve seen more love for G1 though (and I’ve heard the majority of fans here have no problem with it, probably grew up with them).
G4 also doesn’t have harem ponies also from what I’ve seen in the show (not counting fanart).
@Seiya-Meteorite
Then, you’re going to need a lot more Advil because the individuals who’ve never seen G1 are more likely to erroneously assume G1 was bad.
The G1 saga actually had these outfits?
Okay. I am definitely going to start watching MLP G1.!
He must be enjoying it a lot (though I see a devil’s shadow!)…
He’s watching Dance of the Seven Veils

All I think of when I hear this name is either this or this
Yup. They also met Robin Hood.
And of course, I forgot, where it began in /co/

Neat.
@thps48
That doesn’t help me feel better.

It’s meaning changed somewhat once the fandom numbers suddenly jumped in Summer ’11.
Why is she making ponies dance with her?

Never knew that…
@rogerSnow
Yeah…narcissism isn’t really a good thing…
Yeah. People have done that for years and from the beginning. Sorry, but /mlp/ narcissism isn’t the end all be all of the fandom.
Several guy fans I’ve seen grew up watching G3/3.5. X3

Sorry, G1 haters piss me off and I’m sick of seeing them.
>using “love and tolerate” unironicly
Oh, I see, sorry. Couldn’t tell.
I was disagreeing with Anonymous. :T
@thps48
No it isn’t. Without G1, G4 wouldn’t exist today. And it had harem outfits, while I’ve yet to see those in G4 (they did show swimsuits).
