It wasn’t ALL her fault. Twi DID build the magic detector/absorber thing that was sucking up magic willy-nilly and tearing holes in the dimensional barriers and causing problems before Cinch pressured her into using it to win the games.
Background Pony #0A98
Pushing negative stuff about Starlight aside, Twilight’s path of villainy wasn’t her fault. Principal Cinch did blackmail and pressure her into becoming Midnight Sparkle and had her almost destroy the world, all so she could win a game.

Could you please direct to where Starlight screamed that at Twilight? Because so far I have been unable to find anything remotely like that in the show. Although season 5 never explicitly stated she had powerful magic pre-cutie mark, it never outright denied that possibility either. The very fact of losing was already immensely traumatic to her, so why would she want to attend the school that played an active role in taking her friend away from her?

There is a difference. Unlike Sunset’s Minion’s comment, thps48’s comment was more of an offhanded joke rather than a direct jab at the subject.

I do agree, though, that we should put a stop to this while we still can.

“I argued that the season 5 claim already wasn’t supported by anything in the show and provided reasons as to why she might not want to attend Celestia’s school with Sunburst even if she qualified for it.”

Yes and that argument died before it bagan since Starlight screamed at Twilight that she wanted to have magical skill the same time Sunburst did. And she did as revealed in S6, she didn’t need a cutie mark to have impressive enough magic. Think about it. Minus a scenario where parents got in the way of her wants and dreams, which would completely undermine and redirect the cutiemark hate anyway, she was likely not already enrolled with the magical power she had because she didn’t want to leave Sunburst. Sunburst being chosen would of been a golden opportunity to grow together. Its not like she was obsessed with him never leaving the village, that would just be wild conjecture that goes AGAINST the actual evidense of her wanting to have magical talent alongside Sunburst. She simply wanted to grow up with him and she actually did have the opportunity to do so.

But that’s not how it turned out because S6’s reveal of her having immense magic pre-cutie mark didn’t match her backstory and motivations at all. Is it possible that her being separated from Sunburst for one day was so utterly traumatic that it blocked out rational thought for the rest of her life to the simplest solution for staying with Sunburst? Yes, but it almost infinitely improbable AND goes against much of her voiced motivations about wanting to study magic with Sunburst. They way he was taken from her was hardly hyper traumatic or betrayal filled, and knowing she can simply join him right then and there, minus unverified parental intervention, decreases any trauma from the incident a thousand fold. It is beyond unlikely.

Listen, I can understand you wanting her character to make sense with this explanation, but to me its simply grasping at straws that were already put through an industrial shredder. Nothing in your argument makes any long term sense, its just not practical.

“thps48’s comment was just a tongue-in-cheek joke about Sunset’s Minion. Sunset’s Minion’s comment was overtly snarky and leaning towards an insult.”

Uh-huh. Sure. Huge difference.

“It’s best we all put an end to this before things really start spiraling out of control.”

Agreed. All that’s worth saying has been said. We’ll wrap it up here.

@CronoM
What you talking about? I never brought up the matter of whether Starlight’s backstory made sense. You argued that season 6 retconned Starlight’s backstory in season 5 because, according to you, season 6 made Starlight proficient in magic at a young age which contradicts the season 5 notion that Starlight’s motivations in creating Our Town were linked to her inability to join Sunburst at Celestia’s school owing to lack of magical talent. I argued that the season 5 claim already wasn’t supported by anything in the show and provided reasons as to why she might not want to attend Celestia’s school with Sunburst even if she qualified for it.

I think we should all take a step back from this conversation since everything worth being said has already been said, and everything remaining appears to be just taking pot shots at each other. Let’s wrap up the conversation before it gets out of hand and just becomes pure insults.

For once, I agree with you. It’s best we all put an end to this before things really start spiraling out of control.

“We don’t need to bring in season 6 yet when we’re still debating whether or not that was even true of season 5.”

….what? What in holy hell are you talking about? There’s no sense in determining Starlight’s backstory made sense in S5 exclusively. I already said it was weak but plausible in S5 and you didn’t argue with me on that at all, that topic ended before it even began. Everything was about her backstory in general, including S5 and S6 simultaneously since both had her backstory. This was not rocket science.

@cloudkicker108
(-I do not appreciate outright mocking, Sunset’s Minion.)

(-I completely agree with your immature outright mocking, thps48.)

Same response.

Wow, way to stick to your morals cloudkicker108. :/
