Jeez, and I just remembered that in this same episode, Fluttershy praises Spike and talks about how Zephyr could learn from him about being a good little brother. All this, some time after the episode where Zephyr made considerable progress standing on his own hooves and working a job as a mane stylist. Bucking OUCH. The more I think about it, the more I feel sorry for him.

You know, Zeph and Dashie really aren’t that different when you think about it. They both love to show off and brag, they both can be a little lazy sometimes (though Dashie’s gotten better about it since becoming a Wonderbolt), and they both have had maturity problems which they’re working through. If Zeph grew up a bit and quit trying to hit on Dashie, she might actually like him.

I feel bad for Zeph here, since Luna deliberately set him up to fail as part of her and Spike’s plan. And having Rainbow Dash, the girl he’s crushing on, used against him, causing him to lose a job which he believed was legitimate? All so Spike could win a crown and Luna could “prove” a point to her sister? Bucking ouch. Yeah, it’s a cute and funny scene on the surface, but when you look at the underlying context, it’s actually kinda sad. It’s not like he lied his way into a job he didn’t deserve, they picked him precisely because they knew he wasn’t qualified. Zeph might be a little cocky and way too aggressive when hitting on Dashie, but did he really deserve to be played like this?

Imagine if this wasn’t a cartoon for kids. She could have done MUCH more to “distract” him, lmao

This is totally one of those out-of-context pictures that makes people who haven’t seen the episode ask so many questions
