Anyway, you know all those videos people record for YouTube of movies playing in theaters for audience reactions? (Which, btw, I’m fairly certain is illegal but since I never record or post those videos I’m innocent at the moment)
Well, Facebook has a messenger bot based on “Elemental” which does things like give info on the movie and links you to a place to buy tickets. And yesterday they messaged me a “clip” of an audience bursting into applause at the appearance of Clod, an earth character (a kid who has a crush on Ember, the fire girl). They did say not to record in a theater, of course.
However, I’m VERY skeptical on the audience’s reaction, because after a quick search on the movie’s page on Wikipedia (without looking at the synopsis because I still plan to see the movie on Tuesday), it appears Clod has no relevance within the story, and thus is a “bit character”. So either he’s like Princess Luna or Derpy and people love him despite him having no impact, or maybe…and I am suspecting this is the case…Pixar simply took the audience’s cheering from elsewhere and spliced it in to make it SEEM like everyone was excited. After all (at least according to an official clip released by Pixar), he’s basically one of those kids you see in sitcoms where they fake their maturity in order to get with a girl who’s a teenager so I don’t see the appeal behind such a character.
That being said, people online are giving positive reviews to the movie, so maybe they genuinely do like him even though it took a while for Luna and Derpy to receive similar adoration.
