I can name about 5 indies off the top of my head that beat AAA’s hands down. I think a lot of us saw it coming.

It’s happening, indie games overshadowing AAA games is steadily becoming part of videogame reality.

That’s totally true actually.
 
The thing you don’t hear about especially from AAA companies is how well over half of the video game studios now have less than ten people. Why? Cause AAA gaming is a huge financial risk and every time a AAA game comes out it’s like playing russian roulette. Indie games on the other hand may be low reward but they have next to no risk. More and more publishers are switching to smaller studios cause they’ve realized they can’t keep making huge financial gambles and expect to stay in business.
 
A couple months ago we almost had a video game industry crash because a ton of studios were just straight up failing because their AAA budget vs how popular the games actually were was massively starting to snap and crack the video game industry to the point that’s why I was worried cause we were looking at a another 1983 video game crash. As much as I hate a lot of publishers they’re not that stupid in that they know a industry crash is bad and therefore are currently working on restructuring themselves so they don’t crash.
 
A lot of publishers want indie games right now cause they know it’s a financially stable sector.

I didn’t say that all indie games are good; rather they’re financially stable.
 
If a indie game fails financially that’s no big deal; if a AAA title fails that’s a huge problem.

Like uc said, indie publishers have more chance of experimenting with concepts and ideas since the economical risk is surprisingly low.
 
Just take this game as prime example of that. This shows you don’t need superb graphics to have a good game, since it puts esthetics as a second priority over gameplay.
 
Since they have more limited resources and budget, indie publishers really need to push creativity farther if they want to succeed.
 
People are willing to extend their suspension of disbelief because the gameplay, atmosphere and in several cases, story make it up for it.

I really hope twobestfriends play this game.

That’d be sick.Hope this is one of the “7 days near full lets play” if they decide to go for it. I wanna see Pat Cry. Mostly I wanna see him cry while Matt forces him to finish it.
 
OT: Haven’t played it myself (I am a knee-knockin pansy…), everything I hear about it sets off some good signs for me (…but a fan of horror stories.)
 
I especially like how most of the terror comes from the gameplay instead of intense gore or loud scary noise. The fact that the power ticks down to create a lot tension the longer the game goes on and having just looking at the camera cost power is a masterstroke way to punish players for being obsessive about checking and forcing them to choose between vital power or immediate knowledge.
