The G1 Appreciation Thread

I’ve been seeing people upload quite a few G1 screencaps lately. Nice to see people show appreciation for the oldies

Just finished watching all of G1! Here are my thoughts:
- The one-off episodes (Would Be Dragonslayer, Pony Puppy, etc.) between the multi-parters were refreshing.
- Speaking of which, the stories are great, but I don’t quite get why most of the them are divided into multiple parts when every episode was eight-ten minutes long.
- The Bushwoolies were entertaining to watch.
- Megan was a great human character. I wasn’t a big fan of Danny and I don’t really care for Molly.
- The large variation of villains was nice, but character-wise, most of them are the same copy-paste, power-hungry, take-over-the-world kind of villains.
- NGL, Call Upon the Sea Ponies is catchy AF.
- Speaking of the Sea Ponies, I love how they sing Shoo Be Doo every time they appear.
- Was the G4 episode Dragon Quest inspired by Spike’s Search by any chance?
- I know G4 Rarity’s actual inspirations were Sparkler and Glory, but Heart Throb reminds me more of Rarity than either of them.
- Rescue From Midnight Castle feels more like the series pilot than the 1986 movie.
I’ll save My Little Pony Tales for another post if I get around to watching it.

I’m a huge appreciator of G1 My Little Pony. It was on TV when I was small, and I had my very own original Snuzzle pony. I remember the Escape from Catrina episode and I really liked the song about the good old days from her friend. That was probably my first villain redemption arc. lol

You are already booped.
@Applepie2010
They need to do a movie to celebrate. Maybe a generational crossover like the comics.

I’ve lost track of G5 so I don’t know which characters are most Derpy-like. But have such meet Derpy and Fizzy?

Does G1 still remain the only generation to feature stories of interactions between ponies and humans? Maybe you might count EqG AU with their pony counterparts in G4, but I don’t really think of that as the same thing. I know G2 alluded to the idea of humans as caregivers for ponies but as far as I know there is no literature from that era. Whatever the case, I doubt there will be any sort of tales coming out of MLPland at least for a while. That G1 did it (and handled it rather well all things considered) without hesitation or caveat makes it stand out, even decades later.

If you guys could imagine a modernized G1. A good version of such an idea. What might it be like?

I’d say similar to g4 & g5 but with designs more reminiscent of g1 & g2 and with humans
