Will There Ever be an Offical MLP:FIM Video Game?

As the title implies, will there be one? If so, what genre do you think Hasbro will have the game designers go for?
 
(And before you ask, yes I am well aware of the mobile phone game, but for this thread I’m talking about console games.)

probably not.

Wayforward expressed interest in creating a game based on MLP a while back, but I don’t know if there has been much thought about it since then. That’d be awesome if they ever did make one though.
 
But other then that, there hasn’t really been any other developer whose had much interest in making one.

Well, G2 had a PC game, and G3 had a dedicated console thing game and at least one handheld game, so I don’t see why not.

I’m surprised that no-one answered the second part of my question: if there is going to be a MLP:FIM video game, what genre will it be?
 
(It better not be an educational game, because if it is me, and several other brony gamers, are gonna be pissed at Hasbro.)

Well, I hope there will be someone interested. This series has covered pretty much every single media genre…except video games, and me being an avid gamer, this makes me feel rather sad.
 
If any game developers read this, please start working on a MLP FIM video game (Just don’t have it take place during the show’s current events, or make it an educational game. That’s all I ask for).

there is a video game (though quite crummy and exploitative), that being the gameloft MLP game.

Just wanted to drop by and mention something. You see, the reason I made this thread is because with all of the fan-made MLP games that Hasbro’s shut down over the past few years, I’m hoping that they will make up for their unnecessary actions by giving us an official MLP video game.
 
Sadly though, it’s been five years already and we haven’t seen one yet. sigh We’re never gonna get a MLP FIM game, are we?

you should ask Hasbro about that, but my guess is they have no incentive in making any games, which, is really for the better.. more or less, anyway.
 
for one thing, it shows by companies no longer exploit gaming as a gimmick, thanks to the widespread communication in gaming going on, so that’s good. On the other hand, they also might be inclined to not take any risks at all with this. We only think someone hasn’t asked them yet, but the thing is that it’s possible a lot of developers could have asked them about permissions to make a game based on their show.

Video games are expensive to make and aren’t likely increase pony sales. I only see it happening if some game dev steps forward with an idea and tells Hasbro that they won’t have to foot the bill.

I think Wayfoward said they wanted to make a game.  
Also if a pony game was made(or at least a game with ponies in it) it would be kind of cool//funny if they had it crossover with Them’s Fighting Herds. Although that might be kind of impossible.
 
As for genres I think a couple of likely candidates would be a mario party-esque party game, A dancing game and/or a musou type action game because of the large cast of characters they can include.

What about a 3D Collectathon like Banjo-Kazooie?

I would love one. What type of genre? Up to you. I feel more like an adventure-free-roaming could work. Or a Sonic Adventure-like format where you play as a Mane 6 member and they go through their own type of story, with the occasional run-in with other Mane 6 member if their stories happen to cross paths briefly.

I would love that idea actually. Multiple stories in one with each character’s story intersecting with others once in a while. Heck, I wouldn’t mind an RPG with that kinda concept (like SaGa Frontier).
 
Only problem with that idea is that while it sounds good for older fans like us, it would confuse the hell out of most kids to play an open-world game. It would have to have something to make gameplay more linear if it’s to be marketed to kids.
 
MLP is a franchise for kids first and foremost so if they were to make a game, it would have to be something a kid would enjoy.

Which is why I’m worried that if an official MLP game does get made, it’s gonna be an educational game, and that will be a non-seller to both demographics.
 
To paraphrase the AVGN, kids of this decade don’t want to be educated; they want to rot their brains out.

As a fan of the Sonic franchise being the first game being my all time favorite, this is accessible. Also, I think the new Transformer video games are getting lots of positive feedback. The big problem with making a game-based show is handling with a game company that has an average, to negative portfolio. That, and certain shows that have unneeded video games are the ones that are a problem. Like a live action TV show sitcom. But with FiM, it’s not doomed from the start. They could also go all out IDW comics by making stories that are accessible on the show canon.

Basically a superhero series set in a BoJack Horseman style universe. One of the main antagonists is a retired teacher who wend mad trying to teach ignorant American students.
