it looked like an alchemy circle to me at least. not to mention the context of the fantasy was much like the beginnings of the Elric brothers.

Remember though what Starlight & Sunburst were trying to do in that fantasy though. As Sunburst said, “If we do it just right, it should allow us to materialize an object that was lost in the past.” Doesn’t that sound A LOT like what Ed and Al were trying to do in FMA/Brotherhood? They were trying to resurrect their deceased mother; human transmutation. Obviously MLP would make it a little less intense by turning it from bringing back the dead to materializing an object lost in the past, but the reference is still there.
