@Simon as long as there is a possibility of it being true, then I can make it a headcanon. The Apple family were clearly okay with non-sisters joining the event, so it’s still possible that Dinky and Sparkler are not sisters.

Yes, that makes more sense than that they’re actual sisters competing. The competition is about sisters competing together, only that Sweetie broke the rules (in reality she didn’t, but that doesn’t mean anything. Everyone thought she broke the rules). The competition is ALL ABOUT being with your sister, therefore the logical first thing to think is that Dinky and Sparkler isn’t sisters.  
Did you know that the eagle from may the best pet win didn’t compete? He was just there, but he didn’t compete. The same logic there.

I forgot where Dinky called Derpy mom. Where was that? Or where did Dinky say anything? Or where did Derpy say anything about or to Dinky? Or where did they appear together?  
I also forget how this would even be possible, considering that Sparkler is Dinky’s sister.
