Background Pony #26E2
@Background Pony
Fact is - when you keep using a pseudonym, and keep posting under it, you sort-of get a reputation. Even if it’s virtual and can be easily abandoned and replaced.

Full anon posts are just that. Fully anonymous. With no strings attached to whoever may be posting it.

It’s not important to us and none of us are asking for your real name (not that “Carrie” is enough to identify you anyhow). We’re just making the point that ultimately, if you wanted to, you could just stop using that name and become someone totally different and if you’re not utterly incompetent about it nobody would be any the wiser - much as the anonymous poster may say one thing and then go somewhere else and say another without anyone being able to tell they are the same person. This is obviously more complex when you’re dealing with a whole persona than just one statement or comment but ultimately you have that capacity and so deriding people for not “standing up for what they say” or however you want to phrase it is somewhat hypocritical. I understand that people very attached to their pseudonyms don’t feel this way about it, but in reality this is how it is.

@Background Pony
It is more complex than complete anonymity and if your pseudonym is clearly tied to a real-world identity than the distinction loses meaning but in practice most pseudonyms aren’t easy to tie to IRL people by those who don’t have access to the systems they use, and they can just walk away.

The point he’s making is that pseudonymity is just a form of anonymity. We might be able to track whatever you decide to do under that name, but “MagnificentTrixie” doesn’t tell us who you really are, where you’re from, or give us any way to identify you apart from if you willingly choose to identify yourself as that person. Practically, we don’t know who the hell you are, and you could easily abandon this identity and create a new one without realistically having to suffer any social consequences for anything stupid you might have said or done under the name.

Can never have too much rage and hate coursing through you at any given time.

Dojo-approved.

Also, unless you live in the same area or something, his/her real name won’t tell you much. It’ll practically be the same “identified anonymous” account.

…Now I’m confused. When did I hide behind anonymity? Check my comments, I, uh, don’t comment as a background pony. Like, ever.

I’m willing to have a civil conversation with you, but please don’t make things up. It doesn’t help whatever point you’re trying to make.

@MagnificentTrixie
Considering you have no problems hiding behind anonymity when enraged to the point of being insulting, I find you to be worse than many of the crude BPs that post. Your account name takes away your individuality just as much as the title “Background Pony”. Use your real world name and be just as rude, I dare you.

You know. There was a time when I cared about being nice and polite in this fandom, but all the ridiculous condensation, hatred and segregation, talk about “real fans” and “rabid bronies” has just become fucking tiresome. So hey, why not contribute to that.

It’s not just a belief, it’s a cold fact. Most bullshit posts are made by anons. Yes, yes, it’s oh so very sad that the few good anonymous posters are drowned out by their obnoxious trolltacular comrades, but that’s the way the cookie crumbles.

And yes, you failed at making your point. You should practice commenting like an actual user more often.

One thing is posting anonimously, the other thing is trolling anonymously.
Posting controversial things, making baseless claims, then proceeding with tantrums when being called out, etc, etc
