That tracks, given that I’m from the upper midwest.
I’m amused at how this conversation went form gay boi fingering Sonata, to a discussion of school organization in various countries. XD
When I was in school, elementary was 1st through 6th, Junior High was 7th through 9th, and High School was 10th through 12th. A few years after I graduated from High School, it went all katty wompus, Elementary was 1st through 4th(?), Middle School was 5th(?) through 8th, and High School was 9th through 12th. I think. All I know for sure is that kids started going to 4 or 5 schools before they graduated High School. (And that didn’t even count pre-school).

In the US, elementary school is kindergarten through grade 6, junior high school is grades 7 and 8, and high school is grades 9-12. I’d have to do some math to figure out the actual ages, but I think the US and the UK start school at the same age.
For me (in New England) Elementary was K-4, Middle was 5-8, and High was 9-12. Preschool was a bit separate.
The arrangement Paaaad describes is the more common in the US. The short middle is mostly an upper mid-west thing (as is calling it Jr High instead of middle school).
Elementary would be ~age 5 to 9-10, middle 9-10 to 13-14, high school 13-14 to 17-18. Depending on how late in the year the kid was born, and how pushy it’s parents are.
That aligns, if I remember correctly, with UK first/second/third forms to US middle school, and fourth/fifth/sixth form with US high school.

Now that everyone’s splitting the difference between middle- and high-school I should clarify that as a Brit I don’t know quite how the difference works. It’s been longer than I like to admit since my schooling, but I think we got where babies come from as well as why the girls will need to buy sanitary products soon in the final year of primary school (age 10-11). We got more detail on How to safe sex in secondary school (11+).
DARE was primary school and was just as terrible here.

Yeah. My version of Equestria isn’t a utopia, but I still like to paint it as fairly nice and enlightened.
I suppose the later sex ed wouldn’t get into stuff like “how to get your partner off”, but would at least tell you what the appropriate bits are, and definitely things like consent. Which my sex ed classes (WAY back in the day) never even touched on, now that I think of it.

I’m presuming that Equestrian sex ed at least covers the basic anatomy, and what all the bits are, even if it doesn’t actually get into the mechanics of getting a partner off. I probably should have said “Jr. High School” though, or something, because you’re right that it ought to have been earlier. I mostly referenced “back in high school” to make sure it’s super clear that he’s not a minor. XD
I’m painting my Equestria as on the enlightened side. :)
Yeah, in thinking about it Equestria probably does sex ed twice. Once in middle school to cover the basic biology of it, and once in high school to cover more complex topics like consent and gender-ambiguous people.

Regarding sex ed in the US: Yeah, it’s hugely contentious here, and really depends on where you are. Some sex ed is actually useful, teaching about how to use condoms and other important stuff, and other places teach “abstinence only” sex “education” which is basically useless.
I’m painting my Equestria as on the enlightened side. :)

I’ve been playing with the shader a bit, trying to make it look a bit more wet, but I think I may have overdone it.
Yeah, looking at it again it’s perhaps too bright of a blue. But I can see that making a dull color look shiny would be tricky.

I don’t think they do sex-ed in high school in the US, seems like it’s a middle school thing (probably just as well, a considerable portion of high schoolers already know where the clit is). Not sure they get preventing STDs and unwanted pregnancy either, in the “red” states - I suspect the curriculum is just “don’t do it”.

Have to wonder if Trixie and Smoothie would come back early, and find them in a ‘compromising position.’ I could see Peppy freaking out just a bit with having an audience, to which Smoothie ‘smoothly’ replies, “I see Sonata giving you a taste of the other side,” and just laugh. I’d assume he reaches behind him and does it, like while sitting on a chair or stool. It’d be hard to do it backwards at first, but I’ve been braiding my own hair for so many years that it is super easy now.
Though I love the image of Pep and Sonata chattering and gossiping while she brushes out and braids his tail. :)
