It doesn’t need to be done with the main characters.
I think it’ll be good for diversity (there’s much more friend/straight characters than diversity still, while little kids should be taught acceptance for sake of future) + relationships (any relationships) come with challenges and thus by forming one we all learn how to be kind, honest and so on - which is so similar in both love and friendship ^^ imo, hehe
Doesn’t mean they should be canon.
When you have a group of characters who exist to teach a friendship lesson making them a couple could weaken that lesson.
I have ;) Just felt like explaining why fans want Sunny + Izzy as romance.

People love shipping sometimes and these two ponies are super close.
Also, people who love seeing female female/male male and other LGBTQ+ diverse representation are in the fandom and they’d like their fave characters to be diverse. Sadly, even nowadays it’s not always the case, therefore people create headcanons, which is innocent and sweet - it makes the people happy, and after all purpose of MLP is to make people happy :)
The point of the relationship is friendship not romance.
That includes the other friends as well
