The historical trivia that one can only learn on a cartoon horse image archive.

Actually, having one side of the table cleared so servants can have easy access is way nicer than the modern restaurant experience of waiters needing to awkwardly lean over while setting a sizzling plate in front of someone on the far side of the booth.

For back in those days, you and or your group of people would sit on one side, while the other side is where people like servants and or other people who will bring food and other things to the customer’s or person’s table for which they ate at, just like a king or queen in those days.

Also, one of the oldest things you might have heard about when eating at the table, was, “no elbows on the table.” For this reason, the top of the table was not nailed or tied to the legs of the table. So if to much weight of people putting their elbows on the table, the top of the table would fall over on the side of the people. Which over time it became rude or bad manners in todays times.

Why not nail it or tie it down? Well, in those days, there weren’t many rooms and or space for buildings/homes back then, and used the same rooms for many different activities. Thus meaning it would be easier to take the table apart and move it out of the way to do other things.
