I’d be fine with her buggering off to her village if it meant we never had to see her again. While it probably would be better if she stayed around and was developed, I fear the writers will end up going about it all wrong, so I’d rather not risk it.

I’m fairly certain a comment as intentionally shortsighted as that, you weren’t asking for any warranted response. No problemo.
 
Twilight got a student? Since when? Twilight briefly hung out with a “reformed” filler villain, who’s partially valid issues were never addressed beyond offering her a support group, who’s magic was outright stated to be better then Twi even while Twi’s an alicorn, and has no opportunities for growth because her personality shift and her complete acceptance from everybody was summed up in a few minutes.
 
That’s not a student, that’s a hastily rapped up character. They even had her reconnect with her old village so they can exposition in S6 that she moved back to her old town as a “changed mare”.

The later EG movies and S5 has done an excellent job at undervaluing her being a princess and how she became a princess in the first place, and I don’t think that many people would consider it ‘horrible to retcon’ anymore.
 
Now its not something they should do outright obviously, and I’m against the term ‘retcon’. ‘Retcon’ is usually a term reserved for changing a major aspect in the story unnaturally. If the plot was pre-planned to give a character something(like princesshood) just so they can learn to live without it and grow wiser in the process, then its not a retcon.
 
There’s no point of her ever getting wings and giving them up if she never learned something from the experience. That goes without saying. If Twilight traded her wings in for a spine, that would suddenly make Twilight infinitely more interesting as a character. Her wishing to have Golden Oaks backs, fighting in her comfort zone dreamscape not like a princess and more like a wizard librarian, seems to be small hints to her later character growth.
 
Also, partially due to healthy criticisms of the viewers, and partially due to the show’s own criticisms, very few consider Celestia’s decision to be in any shape or form ‘flawless’. Or Celestia representing any kind of truly ‘wise god-like’ figure. The show has all but given up on giving Twilight’s princesshood meaning, or something flowery like she actually died and was reborn.
 
Twilight’s destiny of being princess seems to be leaning towards one of those ‘false prophesy’ resolutions, where the character in question chooses to be themselves over some destiny given to them, and grows stronger because of it by going with their personal strengths, while either tossing their destiny aside or giving it to someone more worthy, usually the primary main character to the secondary main character, or vice versa.

I felt same about Twilight dreaming the Golden Oaks was back.
 
Wishful hoping time: I think Season 5 was mostly developed around the time that #savetree happened, so maybe season 6 might see it return somehow? I mean, I know lots of people were upset about Twilight dying in an explosion in the Golden Oaks getting wings, too, but they really couldn’t go back on that, it was quite major and would’ve been kind of horrible to retcon. But the library getting destroyed is an entirely different affair. She’d love for that. Heck, she might could even magically carve a replica out of another great oak.
 
 
*To be clear, I’m not saying Twilight died to me when she got wings - No, it really didn’t bother me - What I’m saying is she pretty much literally died in an explosion. Boom during the day, went to spiritual space realm, met God Celestia, and was resurrected hours later, at night, as an alicorn.

So I finally watched Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep? last night.
 
…I had no problems with it whatsoever, and thought it handled Luna’s guilt pretty well. …Though I am kind of wondering if Luna’s “reveal” of the reason she created the Tantibus was meant to be a twist, because she kept going on and on about how horrible the things she did as Nightmare Moon was and how it was now happening again and it was all her fault and whatnot.
 
…Wait, I do have one problem. The CMC barely did anything in the final dream fight. With all of Luna’s visits to their dreams, you’d think they’d play a bigger role in helping Luna move on from her guilt. But Scootaloo was the only one to actually DO anything (though her making her wings grow huge so she could fly was really, really sad).

Actually we really don’t. Spike mainly seems to be with Twilight, Rarity and a few interactions with Applejack. Other than that he doesn’t really interact much with the other half of the Mane 6. Season 4 had some moments like Power Ponies and Equestria Games but other than that it’s still mostly Twi and sometimes Rarity.
