We… accidentally fucked up the HSTS header on the site which caused a bunch of nasty problems for us, one of those including making the news tumblr inaccessible because Tumblr refuses to support HTTPS.

It seems to be going much faster on my end. Although strangely I still get a error trying to load the news tumblr. Google cache gives a 404, so maybe it’s not just me?

It is ridiculously fast for me at the moment, like practically instantaneous. If I open a new tab it’s done loading before I can even swap to it.

I have shite internet (like 350 KB/s, or 2.8 Mb/s) so I probably won’t notice that much of a difference.
 
EDIT: Actually, I think images are loading even more slowly than before for me.

We’re actually looking into why the site is so slow… Yeah, it’s faster than before because of new server, but it should be much faster.

Hey, as long as your answer isn’t “we’re never doing it” I’m happy. That feature is like the one thing this site can’t do that I really really want. Also for the record holy shit the site is fast now. I’m stupid with computers, is that the new server making it this fast?

Yeah I always wondered why the comment system and the forum system were so different. I mean, why not just make it so that each image has it’s own mini-forum post/thread as a comments section? (With maybe a little CSS alteration so it’s a bit more compact…)

The messy code was a distraction. Messy code is the programmer version of shiny objects.
 
Comment editing will happen sometime before September. Earlier if I can wrangle comments and posts to not be so ridiculously different.  
You may have already noticed that “Report post” is now just “Report”. That was part of standardizing the button layout between comments and posts.

There are too many things we absolutely need to do atm before we start thinking about things like this. For example, current server is over 98% storage capacity and we’ve been working for over a week to prepare a migration to a new server.
 
Then there’s webm support. And pools/galleries. And user comment editing. And…

…So this won’t become a thing? That’s super-disappointing :(

I think it’d be interesting to look at various secondary or even background characters and see whether their popularity in terms of number of pictures matches their popularity in terms of number of watchers, or whether some exhibit large disparities in one direction or another.

You also need to consider how on site artists would interpret those. They might put too much trust into watch numbers as a measure of how popular they are.
 
People can be very fickle.

Just gonna say you’re going to get some very unreliable figures. People won’t really watch the mane 6 character tags because those go up by the minute. The only singular tags that would be watched would be artists that dont have content like every day or fetishes.
 
Now a statistic that would be more accurate would be the complex watchlists.

I use upvotes to keep track of all images I like, so that I can easily return to them again later on. For this purpose it would not matter whether they were visible to others.
 
That said, I would enjoy being able to see the number of people watching a tag, and furthermore this information could be useful on a “top list” of sorts, as a way to find out what interests people most on Derpibooru.
 
Regarding artists and their tags, introducing the ability for them to see how many people watch their tags could be a step towards making Derpibooru a platform for artists on its own. The introduction of the artist badge a few months ago was a large, though perhaps unintentional step in this direction. It likely helped change some artists perception of Derpibooru as “that place where people upload my art without my permission” to a viable place for them to spread their art themselves. It already appears that some artists choose to publish their art first or exclusively on Derpibooru. More features and steps in this direction could put Derpibooru on par with deviantART and tumblr as publishing platforms for pony artists, with policies more permissive than most alternatives and potential new features allowing them to stay in close contact with their fans.
 
With all of that said, this is probably not what the Derpibooru staff has planned for the site and it is probably for the better. A site which manages the relation between artists and fans faces quite a few challenges as has been seen on other sites throughout the years, and it is probably outside the scope of a booru.
 
Still, introduce the watched tag count if you wish - making the site a little friendlier towards artists without taking on responsibility for large new features wouldn’t hurt, I’m sure.

More people would utilize it if people knew content makers could see it. How many people would bother to favorite or upvote if nobody could see it?

What TSP said, it’s honestly kind of meaningless overall and artist wise people would likely only watch the ones that only get uploaded very rarely. A pretty regular artist like Lumineko wouldn’t even need watching since there’s new stuff like every day.
