Probably.

Honestly, it’s one thing to not like a season. Its another to constantly bitch about it years after it aired. That’s another issue I have with this fandom in recent years. They refuse to let go of really petty things that honestly don’t matter in the grand scheme. Guess that’s what lead to the infamous SaveMLP guy.

This is the truth of any fandom. I’ve been unable to get into literally any music fandom because of elitists and gatekeepers, usually, but not always, teenagers too. I’m sure, and I know, that is just the minority of people, but they are sadly the loudest and most obnoxious.
 
Personally I’ve had the best experiences in the MLP fandom compared to any other fandoms I’ve been in, tho it may be due to me avoiding ‘bad’ places and being older and it not being filled with teenage stans.

These fans failed to realise there are other good stuffs in life too, for my case, Minecraft keeps updating and I put my pony interests to rest time to time, mostly replace it with Minecraft and some other stuffs.

Also one of them wanted a Luna spinoff. Like, why.

Back in 2020, yeah, the politics problem, but there’s Furbooru, Furry site which void of politics where some mlp fans go there as alternatives, but starting to came back later in 2021 because the 2020 politics storm calmed down.

It certainly did get much worse over time. Hate, disgruntlement, discrimination and purism have rooted themselves deeper and deeper into the fandom, getting to such a ridiculous point that furries are now better at the whole “love and tolerate” thing than bronies.  
It’s a huge shame, and what makes it even sadder is that it’s probably just a small amount of bad actors who are just really loud and are spread thin throughout the fandom.

With everything happening on Fimfiction… i’ll let you decide if it got worse. (and hope cooler heads prevail.)

Not talking about Derpibooru, but other MLP communities that I tried weren’t so great. It feels like there are many hypocrites. I became a huge fan almost 2 years ago, MLP is my life, but for some weird reason I was never really accepted and didn’t fit into those communities. The nicest people I met within those places weren’t even bronies and just there by chance. Maybe I was too late. Maybe I have to act in a certain way to get accepted. But meh.  
On the bright side, I don’t see much of the hate (G5, Pony Life, G4 decisions etc.). When I look at G5 art here for example, most comments are very positive, so are the votes.  
So, I can’t talk about how much the fandom changed over time. But as someone who became a fan after the show ended, I’m not very impressed by some communities. It feels like the values of the show don’t mean much… Maybe I just need to find my niche group. :)

Ps: According to this , G5 will release on Netflix September 24, we got 2.5 months before the future of the fandom can be revealed even further.

aware of worse dramas that took place before (Derpygate, Alicorn Twilight, Equestria Girls reveal), but I wasn’t around when those happened

But what are your all’s thoughts? Is the fandom getting worse with every day or is it just an exaggeration?
 
I can’t tell, G5 reveal will be the determination. And this could also be an exaggeration, as fandoms, especially long living ones, been through many cycle of up and down.
