Speaking of which, here’s the end result of my No-Shave November journey!

So I’m making a review of all the Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer specials, and I’m on the final one, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and the Island of Misfit Toys (2001). It came with a behind-the-scenes featurette where the director talks about the decision to animated the film with CGI instead of stop-motion, and… NGL, it’s really sad to watch. The director sounds like he’s all excited about the film’s use of this new CGI technology, and he keeps using terms like “amazingly realistic” and “revolutionary” and “convincing 3D effect” for a movie that looks like this:

Like, I realize that in 2001, CGI wasn’t as advanced as it is today, but both Shrek and Monsters Inc. came out the same year and those look way better IMO. Heck, Gollum was being animated around that time.

A lot of the MCU was based on Joss Whedon’s style. Watch stuff like Buffy and Firefly, it’s very similar to what would become the MCU’s humor years later. When Whedon directed The Avengers (2012), it kind of paved the way for future MCU projects, and his fingerprints are all over that film.

I think the reason people cite it as “MCU tier writing” is because it was really with the MCU that it became so oversaturated, and that’s what people have a problem with, less so than the style itself.

I have been annoyed by Christmas music for a long time. It’s especially obnoxious when I start hearing it in November. It’s not even your month, dammit! There’s still another holiday before Christmas!

There are a few Christmas songs I still love, though. For some examples, both of Weird Al’s Christmas songs kick ass, and I love Greg Lake’s “I Believe in Father Christmas.”

MFEO indeed. Every scene with Ivy and Freckle is so cute. I also like that the comic doesn’t take forever for them to share their first kiss, too.

Christmas music unpopular opinion: I don’t like when people cover “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” but change the final verse. Changing it from the comparatively more melancholy “Until then we’ll have to muddle through somehow” to “Hang a shining star upon the highest bough” messes up the point of the original song IMO.

You took issue with Todd’s latest video too, eh?

I may have mentioned that recently, I was required to go to a Christian gospel choir meeting and I had to sit through a lot of songs about praising Jesus and all that. Well, as I was listening, one of the songs started sounding familiar, and I thought to myself, “…Is this just ‘Wonderful Tonight’ by Eric Clapton? And sure enough, when it came to the chorus, it was the exact same melody.

I know that there’s a joke about how Christian music is just regular love songs only swapping “babe” for “God,” but this is ridiculous.

I wonder what Clapton would think.

Interesting what you mentioned about the Vandread theme, too. I recently started watching that show because someone I know is really into it.

Having been allowed to sit with The Amazing Digital Circus for a few weeks now, I don’t get the Internet’s thirst for Pomni. Personality-wise, she’s not particularly sexy, nor is she even drawn attractively.
