Can’t you just put it in the complex filters?

It would be wonderful if normal filters could use the same “category” namespace the Tag search tool uses. Then you could create a filter that, for example, hides all canon characters by filtering category:character, and monstrous filters like this wouldn’t be needed.

Oops. Super brain fart moment. I literally knew that, having posted about its non-aliasedness in the past.

Actually, it works as expected, I was just completely wrong. No problem using the colon. I also don’t see any other major non-namespaced tags with namespaced aliases, so all is well, I guess.

It’s not because of an alias (there isn’t one), it’s because the colon isn’t registered as an actual character but a magical namespace separator.

Either or both:

*One could make a hiding filter that exempts every artist tag, of which there are more than 150000, and keep it up to date, but that’s silly and I also think that would result in 50X errors.
Whoops. Not only isn’t it aliased, I knew that it isn’t and somehow got confused. Also, the search works properly.

That is an excellent idea.

If no source is provided, the uploader should be prompted to answer yes or no on whether the upload in question is a Derpibooru exclusive. If they choose “yes”, then the derpibooru exclusive tag will automatically be added.

What system did you play it on?

I dunno where to post this but I thought I needed to say it somewhere. The Pony waifu sim game advertised on the site below images etc is a virus. It’s not legit. I messed around with it for a minute, it never loaded and crashed with the application icon disappearing; I had to manually remove files and run all manner of scans after my anti-virus and stuff started going off immediatly afterwards. so WARNING: THE PONY WAIFU SIM IS A VIRUS!

It’s already supported: source_url.

Try this, for example.

Suggestion to allow searching by source url - make it so that if a url is entered in the search bar, it will instead display results for images that have that url in its sources instead of searching by tags.

This would make it easier for people to avoid accidentally uploading an existing image, in case the reverse image search doesn’t work. Of course, if an image has multiple sources and that url isn’t used as one of them in an existing upload, it wouldn’t prevent a duplicate upload, but between the reverse image search and searching by source url, it should help reduce them.

Another tagging feature we should include is a warning if the tag count (not including the rating tag) is 50 or over and should include the wall of tags tag.

Checking codecs would be nice. MP4 and MKV containers can hold various formats, but at least some of them either have patent grants or the patents have expired.

Is Derpibooru a commercial website? I thought it isn’t. AFAIK it’s not earning money for the owners and it’s not charging the visitors.

A quick search suggests that using h.264 for freely accessible content does not require paying:

Pretty sure the reason for this is just unclear legal stuff (or that’s what I was told at some point). MP4 (or more specifically the H.264 codec commonly in MP4s and which may also be inside say a MKV container despite it being an open one) requires royalties to be paid if used on commercial services. Codecs like VP8 or 9 though on the other hand inside Webm are royalty-free so they can be used safely.

I’d imagine VP8/9 in a MKV container would be fine too but that’d require checking the actual codec and stuff which is just more work I guess compared to just storing it in a Webm container and only supporting that. Might be a nice thing for the site to support though in the future.

AFAIK Derpibooru does not support MP4 nor MKV, only GIF and WEBM.

This is of course problematic because sometimes the original format cannot be uploaded without reencoding into WEBM.
