I hate to ask this so soon after posting the image, but I was wondering if the comments on >>3345257 could be locked down. It’s only been up for 20~ minutes and its immediately devolving into racist assumptions of Palestinians, and I’m going to assume based off of observations of related comment sections that its going to get worse.

- A single user can have dozens of filters each with the same tags in them; we would have to make a single “filter” for each user that has all tags, else the count is inflated
- Many users just use complex filters instead of simple filters; parsing these into a simple “this tag is filtered” would be a serious undertaking
- they can be there as a simple exclusion, like in a simple filter
- they can be there with conditional exceptions (tagB unless with tagA)
- they can be the exception itself you never want filtered
- they can be used as a global exception (an always-on search)
- they can be using a term that’s aliased (eg. tx instead of trixie)
- As a lesser / more pedantic issue, people often filter a parent tag that implies the actual tag they want to filter, ie. filtering all of “grotesque” when you just wanted to filter “scat”
- Similarly, a lot of people are perfectly content using one of the default filters, or a shared public filter; do the tags in those filters also count per use?

Not possible to easily get anything accurate; people have multiple filters that may have the same tags in them, and complex filters use queries instead of tags. Plus lots of people are content with just using one of the defaults, or filter a tag that implies another tag that’s the “real one” they’re actually wanting to filter.

Even with filters, galleries represent the potential to have unusually high concentrations of themes, fetishes, or graphic content that you normally would not see in a typical search of the site.

And not everyone has filtered everything they might not want to see, because they’ve never seen “that much of it” in one place. Perhaps just browsing the site with the everything filter works fine for them because it’s not an entire page of the one thing they get triggered by.
But with galleries, it’s not just “the random images in this one tag”, it’s a curated gallery of images that someone has hand selected, sometimes highlighting what they consider “the best of the crop” in whatever theme they are focusing on.
The potential for someone accidentally wandering in to a gallery exclusively dedicated to some a subject they might never have otherwise filtered is high.
So even though filters exist, it is a courtesy to others to let them know what they are going to see when they open that gallery up.
Using my own galleries as an example, I am pretty sure people browsing a fun site like this will generally not be prepared for what they’ll see if they open my gallery “Best Pony”.
Sure, it’s pages of happy fun fine to see at work. Then it’s an entire page of ”Best Cockmare”. Even if people are using their filters, gallery is built from an extremely particular view of “Best”. And I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if it were triggering for some users even if they think they are “filtered up”.

What is the reasoning behind this line in the gallery editor?
If you are going to have NSFW images in the gallery, leave a warning for users who may not want to see it
As I interpret it, galleries with any NSFW need to be marked as such, which doesn’t make sense to me because filters exist.

I think a lot of images tagged “politics”-particularly the ones with locked comments-are like that, but they haven’t been deleted, meaning they don’t violate this.
How don’t they violate this?

In regards to “Rule #6: Do not indiscriminately downvote images based on their tags and/or content. Instead, filter content you do not wish to see.”
Can a wider search on a tag be done to see if it’s happening on multiple images? That way the mods can see if it’s the same group of people just not blacklisting/hiding the tag and instead trying to manipulate the scoring and take action accordingly?

To me it looks like they’re still being used just as convivial hangouts by friends having fun together. Kind of like image #0 or the pizza thread are handled.

At MiniCon we used to call that “microprogramming”, which is basically people entertaining themselves, which in those threads is not breaking any rules - except maybe off topic, but for those old event threads it seems to not be doing any harm.
If people are breaking rules in there, like 0 or spamming or something like that, then we can look at it. But last time I looked at them they seemed remarkably well behaved.
I’ll subscribe to them, just in case. I mean - I’m still participating in one of them from time to time, but I’ll try to pay more attention to them.
